Encouraging Hearts and Home: Getting a Jump Start on St. Patrick's Day

With Saint Patrick's day being next Friday I thought this might be a good week to showcase some St Patrick's day ideas that were showed at last week's party so if you want to celebrate you'll have a little time to prepare.  This is one holiday that we don't do that much with in our house. I do cook up a corned beef dinner (that my boys won't really eat!) and usually something minty and green for snack (that they'll devour).  We used to have a lot of fun with rainbow crafts and things when the boys were younger and we had long homeschooling days to full but now it's all pretty low key.

I shared our favorite corned beef recipe here (I like to boil mine and then finish off under the broiler topped with a  brown sugar/mustard glaze)

A few throwback posts from our homeschooling days with lots of fun St. Patrick's crafts and learning ideas-- here, here, & here  As well as a post showing a few of our favorite St Patrick's day books

And Now, It's Time for This Week's Encouraging Hearts & Home Blog Hop!

  1. We don't celebrate St. Patricks Day. I did make corned beef once when it was on sale at Aldi, but we didn't care for it. Thanks for the party, although it says the link isn't open yet.

    1. My husband and I both grew up eating corned beef and cabbage dinners each year and while I was never a fan of either growing up I have slowly developed a taste for it. I've noticed for the past few weeks that the link up isn't opening up at the right time but since I'm not the one that sets it up I have zero ideas how to fix that.

    1. I always think a cottage or shepherd's pie would be perfect this time of year too.

  3. We don't celebrate St Patrick's Day but I do love a corned beef dinner. My family who are not fussy eaters really dislike corned beef.

    1. Yeah my boys won't even try it! Though they'll eat the potatoes I cook to go with it. LOL.

  4. I'm half Irish, so of course I celebrate! I bought my corned beef and cabbage so I'm all set to cook it all next week along with Irish Soda bread, which we all love. Dessert will be chocolate Mot Girl Scout cookies as my youngest granddaughter was selling them along with her brownie troop, and I stocked up with a year's worth...lol

    1. We didn't buy (or see!) any girl scout cookies yet this year. The mint and the samoas are my favorites.

  5. Saint Patrick's day is something that I have never really celebrated apart from the one year when I had a night out and it happened to be Saint Patrick's day. There was Irish music and drinks. lol

    1. We never used to celebrate but I found myself celebrating a lot of the small and even oddball holidays when we were homeschooling and looking to add something fun and different into our schedules.

  6. We ate at a fun Irish Pub recently and I have been craving more corned beef ever since. Thanks for hosting. Have a blessed week.
