Friday Favorites: Rainy First Week of May

We had a pretty rainy and uneventful introduction to May this week.  But even in ordinary weeks there is something to be thankful for and this week my favorites include a trip that we planned (for later this summer)!

I took Ian to the bank and got him all set up with his new checking/ savings accounts.  It's such a weird adulting milestone!  Lucky for me all my kids are great savers and I'm not worried about his finances at all.

Saturday afternoon my husband and I took off for a date night out consisting of dinner and shopping.  We planned to tackle mother's day shopping and ended up buying a home entertainment system for the basement.  We had dinner at Smoky Bones-- which I only thought was okay since I'm not a big spicy/ BBQ/ meat fan and came home with zero mother's day gifts. LOL.  It was still fun though and nice to get dressed up and out of the house.

Sunday we had to pick up the TV we ordered the night before at a different Best Buy and offered to take Ian and his cousin to Bass Pro while we were already heading that way anyway.  We had another meal out this time at Longhorn.  Then we got home and I visited with my mom while my step-father helped Ben install our whole system.

Monday I made up a batch of cards and I just LOVED how they turned out!

I made three variations of this same card

Tuesday and Wednesday were rainy, cold days and my mother in law came over in the afternoon to have a little rummy & pitch battle with Ian and I.  We played 2 games of rummy and 1 game of pitch and Ian won all 3 times! That kid has so much luck (and probably a little skill too 😉).

But my absolute favorite of all-- we finally re-booked our Disney/Universal trip from 2020 and will be heading there at the end of the summer.  I am dreading the heat, humidity, and crowds but honestly, with my boys' schedule it's the only time that is even going to remotely work for us.  And hey, it's Disney!  It's not like we won't have fun regardless.

The sun finally made an appearance on Thursday and Evan and I went out hiking!

We had a few really pretty mornings on the lake (before the rains came).

  6. Your cards look great! I still need to make a card for my mom, so thanks for the reminder! I always buy gifts way in advance but for some reason always end up making a card the day before. And those pictures of the lake in the morning look so peaceful!

    1. You're welcome for the reminder; I find I either make my cards waay in advance along with the gift or leave it until the last minute with very little in between.

  8. I'm so excited for your Disney trip. Yes, it will be hot but you'll make the best of it. When kids get older, it gets harder and harder to schedule a trip! Have a happy Mother's Day weekend.

    1. I feel like that too; in fact seeing so many other people rescheduling their trip is what finally motivated us to reschedule ours. It is such a crazy milestone! We're ticking lots of them off this year.
