Friday Favorites: Another Heat Wave

It has been a busy and productive week.  We have been swamped with unbelievable heat and humidity this week and while the lake is usually like bathwater this time of year it was nice and cool and refreshing after our rainy summer.  I have been focusing a lot on getting the older two boys ready for school and trying to tick off all the items on my to do list this week so we spent lots of time at home.

On our way home from North Carolina Saturday we stopped in the Pocono Mountains and took the boys hiking through Bushkill Falls.  It was so great to be up and moving after so much time sitting in the car.

My husband brought home a few loads of sand Monday night so we could fix our beach and Ian helpfully used the excavator to get it all spread out.  It's so nice having a soft, sandy beach again after all the rain in July washed most of our beach away.

Taken the next day at Alec's party; it's the only shot of the finished beach I've got.

We had a group of Alec's friends over this week for a party/ cookout by the lake and I think everyone had a great time!  The weather was perfect (if cloudy) and his friends are all so nice.

Alec made this fabulous frozen Oreo dessert to share with his friends and I think it was a favorite for EVERYONE that day!

I put on some new nail wraps this week; another fun "summer" set!

I found some time to read my book outside-- I'm loving the Rose Code but the 600+ pages feel like they are taking forever to get through!

We've spent time in the lake this week trying to keep cool.  The water has been refreshing with heat indexes in the 100's.

I stepped on the scale Sunday morning and found that even with all the junk food and ice cream we ate all vacation long I somehow managed to drop .8 lbs!  I had such high hopes to exercise 5 times this week but if I include our hike at Bushkill falls I only managed 3 workouts.  I need to get better at working out but am happy that I keep making baby strides towards my weight loss goal.

We had a quick moving thunderstorm after dinner on Thursday and it left behind a beautiful rainbow... with oldly yellow colored skies.

    1. The falls were amazing this year; we've been before when it was a dry summer and it was just a trickle. I think my boys might have mutinied if the falls weren't worth the hike. It was HOT day and they did not want to stop. LOL.

  15. Oh, girl, may the WW gods shine on me tomorrow. I have been just lousy about eating well. And have indulged in a bedtime snack every night this week. No bueno. Proud of YOU, though.

So we need that recipe for the Oreo dessert. Or maybe not. Depends on the scales tomorrow. I want to make a caramel ice cream sandwich dessert. But again, it depends on the scales tomorrow.

We have had crazy rain. And our pool water is cold. All week have wanted to get in but every evening we get these monsoon storms that dump rain and then our water gets even colder. Going to turn on the heat in the pool and hope for sun this weekend.

Love the beach you (re)created. And your time in the lake and outdoors reading. I always try to make out the titles of your books. One recently was a Christina Lauren. Am I right?

    1. I'd be happy to! We seem to have weeks where it rains non-stop, then it's cold for a week, and then we get record breaking highs for a week... it's just all over the place.
