Encouraging Hearts and Home: Goodbye August

And just like that it's the last Thursday of the month! I drafted this post early in preparation for Hurricane/ tropical storm Henri, since I wasn't sure if we'd have any power or internet connection once the storm passed us by.  We woke to the not so joyous news on Sunday that the new path had the eye of storm passing right over us and we should expect widespread and long term power outages.  Oh joy!  Thankfully we have a generator as we tend to lose our power often and we're getting to be old pros at living on limited power.

And Now, It's Time for This Week's Encouraging Hearts & Home Blog Hop!

Join your Encouraging Hearts & Home Co-Hosts each week for encouragement and support for your heart & your home. We hope to provide a space that builds each other up and lends a helping hand along the way. With all the negativity in the world, let's shine a positive light!

Some of my favorites from last week:

Garlic Herb Grilled Salmon by Comfort Spring that inspired me to make grilled salmon for the first time using our gas grill!

The beautiful photography from Yet Another Birding Trip to Saul Kere by Cranium Bolts is just breathtaking.

After reading all about Hiking in the Driftless Region by Amy's Creative Pursuits I was ready to pack my bag and give it a try.

  2. I am so glad that Henri ended up being not quite as bad as predicted! I love that you are experts at living with limited power! That kind of made me chuckle.

    1. Oh me too! Yeah we had a few years in a row where we seemed to lose our power just about monthly. It was crazy. Luckily they have done some major tree trimming so it doesn't happen as often now.

  3. Our power goes out a lot too! Hope you did well with the hurricane. For whatever reason the ones we've had go through here are always in September so I am hoping that is not the case this year.
    take care,

    1. It is so rare for us to get any sort of hurricane up here but most of them have hit in Sept and Oct; I have never heard of an August hurricane up here at all.

  4. We also tend to lose power to lightening strikes, downed power lines, etc. So glad Henri wasn't as big as predicted.

    1. Yes! Us too. It's kind of become a joke with our local family and friends since if anyone is going to lose power it is always us.

  6. Oh, thanks so much for featuring my post! I so appreciate it, and if you're ever in my neck of the woods, we will have to get together. Stay safe with the hurricane. That's great that you have a generator. Thanks for the party.

    1. Definitely! We have had three vacations now where when I share about it after we've gotten home I've heard from bloggers "you were only 30 minute away from our house!" and I was so bummed to not have known ahead of time and plan something. I will certainly keep it in mind if I ever get out to the driftless region.

    1. We made out just fine too; a day and a half without power but a tree did land on one of our neighbor's two cars! Oh I just felt so bad for them.
