Scarborough, Maine-- Day #2

We woke to beautiful sunny skies the next morning.  We had breakfast at Shade at 8 am and using our bed and breakfast package we only had to provide a tip.  We planned our day while chowing down on fresh fruit and granola and an omelet.

We packed up our stuff, checked out of the hotel and headed to Ferry Beach.  We wanted to hike the Prout's Neck Cliff Walk.  We ended up hiking 5 miles all the way around the loop trail using a combination of an online blog we found and an Alltrails map we used.  It was a beautiful trail but I got eaten alive by bugs.  Even on Ferry Beach and in the parking lot we were getting bitten by mosquitoes and horseflies.

The trail was wet and muddy and narrow but very easy to follow.

It was hot out so I wore shorts, one of the new tank tops I had purchased at Talbots and my hiking sneakers but I should have worn pants and gauzy long sleeves.

Once we made it back to the car we decided to head to the Maine Diner for lunch.  My husband had heard that they were featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives so he wanted to try their seafood chowder.  I changed into a pair of compression leggings and a short sleeved t-shirt and that seemed to help with the itchiness of the bug bites.

We waited about 40 minutes for a table.  We both got a cup of seafood chowder (which was loaded with scallops, shrimp, huge chunks of lobsters, and clams).  I opted to try their fried scallop roll with Cole slaw and my husband got a warm lobster roll with butter and onion rings.  It was all SO delicious!

We decided to drive back to Kittery and get some ice cream before heading home.  It was clouding over and starting to sprinkle again plus we knew we had at least a few hours drive; maybe more depending on traffic.

We stopped back at York River Landing and while I typically get Maine Black Bear (vanilla ice cream with raspberry swirls and raspberry filled chocolate cups) I thought it was much to similar to the ice cream I just had the night before.  I opted to try a new flavor-- Maine Lobster Tracks and Oh my! I might just have a new favorite!!  It's vanilla ice cream with lobster colored caramel filled chocolate cups swirled with an eclair crunch.

This is a kiddie size!  Can you see the bright orange caramel pieces?  They were so good!

That was the end of our weekend in Maine.  Gosh I already miss it and can't wait to go back!  Maybe I can talk my husband into trying out a new resort this fall for his birthday??

  6. That's so cool that you got to go to that restaurant that was featured on TV. I bet that's why the wait was so long! Haha. And I cannot believe that is the kiddie sized ice cream cone. That's big enough for both of our kids to share!

    1. That was definitely part of the wait but we were also told that much like all the other places they are having a really hard time finding help so can only open the restaurant part-way.

  13. I have never forgotten a vacation to Maine we enjoyed when I was a little girl. A LONG time ago. We picked blueberries, swam in a lake, stayed in the most quaint cottage. Thank you for reminding me of that trip. Your photos are always lovely. Great capture of the waves breaking on the rocks. You look really cute in your short, tank and hiking tennis shoes. But I bet the bugs did have a field day on your arms and legs. Your dinner meal sounds divine. We are headed to the beach this week. Hoping there is seafood in my future!!
