Making Gift Card and Money Holders Using Scrapbooking and Cardmaking Supples

I don't tend to keep a lot of crafting supplies on hand so when I saw this month's de-stash challenge I wasn't sure what I was going to make.  I finally realized that with so many of my Christmas gifts being cash and gift cards this year that I needed to make up some fun paper crafting/ creative ways to gift them.

I still want my nieces and nephews to have something to open so I pulled out my papers and stamps and made up some cute little money/gift card holders. They were much easier to make than I thought.

The first one I worked on was to hold some oversized Nintendo gift cards.  I made a standard sized card and folded down one corner of the card front.  Then I ran my double sided tape along the bottom an 1/2 way up the side creating a cute little pocket.  Finally I added some cute embellishments and ribbons.

Voila! A simple and easy gift card holder for those larger sized gift cards.

The bulk of the tweens and teens on my list just wanted cash this year and while I will miss shopping for them I did have lots of fun making money holder cards (ignore the $50 bill in these photos though; it's all I had on hand).  I ordered some envelopes on Amazon that are sized 3 1/2 & 6 1/2 so I knew I wanted to keep my cards shorter than that.

I finally settled on cutting the paper to 8 1/4 x 6 7/16.  Then I would score the card at 3" and 6"  on the long side like this:

I used my hexagon punch to make a notch and then would use my paper cutter to cut off one side (on some of them)

Like this:

Then I would decorate the front and the inside.

See the notch?

Now because my envelopes were shorter than the length of a bill I had to make a small fold in the money to get it to fit.  If anyone knows how to find/buy regular money card envelopes I'd love to know!

I used a varieties of patterns and colors to make my holders.

Some of them I didn't bother making a notch and just had a straight pocket inside.

My final three cards were made using a similar process as the above ones. I cut the cards to 7 1/2 by 6 7/16th and scored on the long side at 2 1/4 & 5 1/4.  Like this:

Then when I folded them they overlapped so I decorated the front and the inside flap that holds the money in place and created a little band to go around them and hold them shut.

The band is 1 1/2 x 6 1/2 with score lines on the 6 1/2 side at 2 and 5 1/4.  I decorated the band and then slipped it on.

I just love how they turned out and I had all the supplies on hand already other than the envelopes and some extra double sided tape.

  17. So many great ideas! I love the clever way you used you hexagon punch. I think the pleat in the notes is just fine, I think your US money is longer than our UK notes anyway so for us it would probably be just fine. I love love a nice wallet like this, it makes the gift card or cash seem so much nicer somehow.
