Making Pizza in a Cob Oven

Evan and I had the best time on our field trip Thursday.  We met friends of ours for a pizza cooking class using a cob oven.  I only knew what a cob oven was because we toured this permaculture garden last year and learned all about them.

The same lady that gave us our garden tour offered to teach the class. We began by making our dough.

Then one by one we rolled out our dough, added our toppings, and put them into the oven.  It heats up to about 800 degrees so a pizza cooks pretty quickly.

We all made a different variety.  Evan had cheese, I made a savory pear/ cheddar cheese/ balsamic pizza, and my girlfriend made a breakfast pizza with bacon, quail eggs, and chopped green peppers. Most of the ingredients were sourced right from the gardens/farm!

Evan fed the leftover crusts to the chickens and helped with cleaning up all the dishes in their farm sink before we left.

    1. We had never heard of a cob oven before stumbling across this farm either but it is amazing. The pizzas were cooked at 800 degrees but we could easily touch the top and outside of the oven as it was not hot at all.

  8. Oh how fun is that! We used to make homemade pizza on the grill which always came out super delicious. A bit messy, but so worth it! In fact, I just brought up to my kids the other day that we should make pizzas on the grill soon. Thanks for sharing and linking up with me!
