What's Up Wednesday in May

I'm not so sure that May's What's Up Wednesday post is going to be all that exciting since we've spent yet another month sheltering at home.  However, I do want to participate and have a record of what our months were like during this crazy, crazy time we're living in right now.
What We're Eating This Week:

Grilled chicken wraps with french fries and salad

Homemade Weight Watchers pizzas with salad

Steak, baked potatoes, broccoli

Shrimp stir fry over rice

Homemade macaroni and cheese (I'll use this recipe and omit the broccoli and ham) with salad

Chicken sausage & vegetable Alfredo over pasta

What I'm Reminiscing About: Though our school year has been over for a few months already this year I am thinking about schooling through spring in years past and how much fun we always had learning with all of our homeschooling friends... Even us veteran homeschoolers are not used to learning at home, alone, day in and day out.

Like the day we went on an ocean research vessel (4 years ago this week!).

The college class we took on Google Earth and natural disasters.

Learning about sustainable farming and cooking methods.

Learning all about submarines at the museum

What I'm Loving: All my mother's day gifts!  Especially this chair!

You can't beat the view!

What We've Been Up To: Hiking, baking, working on puzzles, getting the flower gardens and deck/patio ready for summer, redoing Alec's bedroom, reading, kayaking, and crafting.

What I'm Dreading: Waiting another few months for my surgery.  I just want to get it over with.

What I'm Working On: A few fun summer crafts, another puzzle, reading a few more books, trying to plan a few fun things for summer (knowing they'll most likely get canceled).

What I'm Excited About:
We finally finished Alec's room and I am loving it!  We still need to hang his pictures but other than that it is all completed.  So now I'm thinking about our next home improvement project and I'd love to talk my husband into really tackling the basement.

After we moved his furniture in but before we unpacked

All finished.

What I'm Watching/Reading:

Watching: I began watching Council of Dads on Hulu and am loving it! A dad, with fairly young children at home, has been diagnosed with cancer and decides to create a council of dads for his family to turn to in case he doesn't live to see them grow up.  I've also started watching The Beauty and the Baker on Hulu, Sweet Magnolias, and Outer Banks.

Reading: I read 10 books this month and will have a full review of them on the blog this weekend.  I hope you'll come back and check it out.

What I'm listening to: Absolute peace and quiet!  The younger boys are off watching TV and my husband and Ian are out working on getting the jet ski ready for the water.

What I'm Wearing: I've finally gotten to mix in some spring clothing to my wardrobe!

What I'm Doing This Weekend: Nothing much- maybe hiking or kayaking or shopping.

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month: Getting my hair cut!  I don't even so much feel like I need a haircut but I am really excited about making the trip to the salon... even if I will be required to wear a stupid mask (man I hate those things!).

What Else is New: Ian is supposed to be starting a new job (just as soon as I can get his working papers in order).

Linking Up With: Mid-week link up, On the Edge, Fabulous Fridays,

    1. It's amazing!! I told my boys yesterday that I could happily sleep out there if it weren't for the mosquitoes.

  3. That chair is pretty awesome! You look so cute in all of your spring clothes! I don't wear a mask when I go out. Luckily my hairdresser is my husband's aunt and she makes house calls for me! I love all of the old pictures of your boys. I love looking through old pictures and remembering the things we did that didn't seem so important then, but they are now.

    1. We can't go to restaurants, dentist, doctor, hair appointments, etc. without a mask; they also take your temperature and assess you for symptoms before allowing you to enter (or sit outside in the case of our restaurants as no indoor seating is allowed). I've mostly been avoiding any and all places that require us to use masks.

  6. I love your new chair! I looks so comfy! I have been having a little more fun in the kitchen and plan to try some French dessert recipes next week. Going to add a scale to my amazon shopping list so I can measure in grams!

    1. We bought a kitchen scale this year because many of the recipes Alec wanted to try had gram measurements too. It has come in pretty handy.

    1. Yeah, I wasn't super thrilled when my doctor told me that I'd be falling toward the end of the line of surgeries waiting for hospitals to open back up but at the same time I also thought I'd rather not have the surgery until my husband can hopefully be there with me too. I really enjoyed The Gown a lot!

    1. I definitely scored big with my gift. I'm eyeing another patio set for our deck that is always neglected since I'd like to try and use it more.

    1. Thank you! We just had kabobs on the grill last night that we served over rice and turned into an impromptu stir fry with a bit of teriyaki sauce.
