Holiday Decorations at the Florence Griswold Museum

My boys and I have been to the Florence Griswold Museum a few times in the fall when they host their annual fairy garden displays (you can read about one of those trips here) but I realized we had never been inside.

Evan was asking to go do something on Thursday and I thought this might be a good time to check out the museum since Florence Griswold was born on Christmas and they do a whole Christmas themed art display this time of year in honor of her and her memory.

This year they had 4 trees in the main gallery decorated with artists palettes-- 212 of them to be exact.  The trees are also decorated with paper quilled, wood carved, and other assorted handmade ornaments, garlands, and even tree skirts.

Mediums for decorating these palettes included anything from paint & paper to beads, natural elements, clay, and even tapestry.

They had two large trees flanking the front desk; one in more traditional holiday colors and one all decorated with fairys, flowers, and butterflies.

The old boarding house has been preserved and the top floor turned into even more small galleries; we also found a few holiday decorations there too.

I'll have another post up in the new year about the museum itself and some of the works of art we enjoyed looking at.
