Books My Middle School Boys Love

Alec has been having a great time re-reading several of his favorite books and series these past couple of months.  He has started keeping a running list of what books come next in each series so he knows which ones to look for on each trip to the library.  Evan asked to go to Barnes and Noble for his birthday and picked out a few graphic novels-- reading all three of them while we were on vacation!

1.  Nevermoor; The Trials of Morrigan Crow-- Morrigan is supposed to die at midnight on her eleventh birthday but is whisked away at the last minute to Nevermoor where Morrigan has to pass a series of tests or face returning home and dying.

2.  Warriors, The New Prophesy book 2:Moonrise-- in the second book of the second series, the cats are travelling home after their journey to save the clans where they meet a band of wild cats with their own prophesy to fill.

3.  Wings of Fire Book 12-- Cricket has never fit in with the other HiveWings and now she's in hiding for stealing the Book of Clearsight.  She's hoping to find answers to all her questions as well as topple the regime and stop a war from breaking out.

4.  Wings of Fire Winglets book 1: Prisoners-- A short stories series that acts as a spin off of the Wings of Fire series digs a bit deeper into the dragon stories. Fierceteeth is a captive in the SandWing prison and just wants a change to tell her side of the story.

5.  The Lost Rainforest-- With the rainforest divided into two groups of animals; daywalkers and nightwalkers, Mez is astounded to realize that she can walk in both.  As she rushes to discover just what it all means an evil force is waking which threatens to destroy her rainforest home.

6.  Storm Runner-- When Alec saw that book 2 (The Fire Keeper- listed below) was out he knew he just had to re-read the first book and refresh his memory.  Based on Mayan Mythology, Zane discovers that the ancient volcano in his backyard is actually a prison for the Mayan god of death and Zane finds himself in the middle of a prophesy to save the world.

7.  The Fire Keeper: Storm Runner Book 2-- Zane has moved to secluded tropical island with his family an closest friends but find that his life is not as quiet and orderly as he had hoped.  Unable to contain his new powers, trying to repair the rift between himself and his dog, and battling back feelings for Brooks Zane's life is anything but ordinary.  Added to everything Zane must try to save his father from being executed and find the other godborn children before the Mayan gods do.

8.  Lost Rainforest book 2; Gogi's Gambit-- Gogi is a shadowwalking monkey who embarks on a quest with his friends to try and stop the ancient awakened evil.

9.  Estranged-- a 200 page graphic novel where Edmund and Childe were swapped at birth.  Filled with magic, dragons, and dangerous quests both Alec and Evan read this book in record time; loving every minute.

10.  Miles Morales-- In this 400 page graphic novel Miles gets bitten by a radioactive spider and when Spiderman dies, Miles takes over as a superhero; but is he up for the challenge?

11. Ms. Marvel: Metamorphosis-- Evan didn't realize that this was not the first graphic novel in the series but still enjoyed reading about Ms. Marvel's team- up with Spiderman in this book.

Alec also read the entire Dragon Mage Academy Series using his Kindle on vacation-- this 7 book series by Cordelia Castle kept him entertained on our long drives and plane rides.

1.  Princess of dragons
2.  Poacher of Dragons
3.  Plague of Dragons
4. Protector of Dragons
5. Prisoner of Dragons
6. Pariah of Dragons
7. Patron of Dragons

  1. I don't think I've heard of any of these books, although the covers on some look familiar. But, I also don't have any middle school boys. That would explain it. :)

  2. What a fun list of books. I wish my kids read more. They do enjoy good books, but just tend to do sports more than reading when they are free.
