Making Glass Etched Ornaments Using the Cricut

I had bough some glass ornaments for the ornament exchange craft that I never ended up using and thought I could use them plus the leftover vinyl pieces to make some beautiful glass etched ornaments.  

It took me a couple of tries and one tossed ornament but I finally got the etching cream to work well and really liked how they  turned out. 


After having made these ornaments:


 I had what looked like Christmas stencils left and just knew I could not let them go to waste.  I took the vinyl and added them to my glass ornaments making sure that the areas around the cutouts were sealed real well.  I didn't worry too much about wrinkles or if the outer edges were lying flat.


I saw that I had a small hole between the word joy and the holly leaves so I took a tiny scrap of vinyl and covered that up as well
When my ornaments were all ready I got out my etching cream and added a nice thick layer of cream over the entire area I wanted to etch.  Then set my timer for the 3 minutes the bottle recommended.




After I rinsed them off I still thought the etching looked a bit faint and spotty so I applied another layer of cream for another 3 minutes without touching the vinyl stencil at all.

After the timer went off the second time I rinsed them off again and removed the vinyl to reveal my designs. 



This one I only etched once and you can really see the difference!
I can't wait to see these hanging on my tree next week with all the lights sparkling off of them!

    I bought glass etching cream, but I haven't used it yet. Great idea to use the stencil from the other ornaments. Beautiful!

    These are really lovely. I don't have a cricut, but using a stencil with etching creme gave me a great idea for a mirror project I want to try.

      Thank you! I was surprised at how easy it was too; I found the trick was to use more than one layer of etching cream or else the etching was so faint it hardly showed up at all.

      Glass etching is surprisingly easy! My younger two boys just tried a glass etching project too and loved it.

Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4.  Since the 10th falls on a Sunday this month (and I don't blog on the weekends) I thought I'd share my 10 on the 10th a bit early. I love that it also coincides with Friday Favorites since Marsha's 10 on the 10th is often one of my favorite prompts to answer.  Rather than asking us specific questions this month, Marsha has asked us to share 10 things we like to do or eat in November. I thought I'd actually share 10 of each! What's Up Wednesday in November

It's the last Wednesday of the month and that means it's time for What's Up Wednesday. This will be my last post of the month but I'll be back on Monday the 2nd with some of my favorite Prime Purchases of the year.  What We're Eating: Sunday: Steak (and tofu) stir-fry over rice Monday: Weight Watcher's American Chop Suey  with salad Tuesday: Crock pot Philly cheesesteak grinders with chips and salad Wednesday: Pumpkin pancakes with fruit and bacon Thursday: Our menu hasn't changed since 2020..Though we will sub out the crescent rolls for some homemade bread/rolls that Alec's cooking up for us.  Friday: Leftover turkey pie Saturday: One of our favorite soup recipes; though I'm not sure which one yet!
