My June Books
I managed to read 7 books this month! While I typically prefer summer romance or beach type novels this month I found myself drawn to a lot of suspense novels and really enjoyed quite a few of them.
1. I've Got My Eyes On You-- When her 18 year old sister Kerry turns up dead, Aline works with the police to try and help solve the murder not realizing she's putting her own life in danger. This was a great page turner.
2. Matchmaking for Beginners-- When Marnie inherits an old brownstone from her ex- husband's great aunt she finds that she's also taken on lots of new friends and neighbors. Feeling out of place and determined to sell the house she's shocked to find that she has to live there for 3 months or forfeit the house. In those 3 months Marnie finds that she actually does fit in quite well and might not want to leave to go back home to her family.
3. The Thinnest Air-- When Meredith goes missing from her car one day it's like she vanished into thin air. Her sister Greer arrives and begins questioning anyone and everyone, soon realizing that she doesn't know Meredith as well as she thought she did. A great suspenseful book that I just could not put down.
4. The Last Mrs. Parrish-- When Amber sets her sights on being the next Mrs. Parrish she imagines a life of luxury and endless spending like the current Mrs. Parrish; but things aren't always what they seem. I kind of anticipated what was going to happen in this book but it was still a fun read!
5. Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century-- A nonfiction book about many retirees who have taken to the road in campers and work around the United States doing odd jobs to try and make ends meat to support themselves. It was quite sad but so interesting.
6. The Halo Effect-- When Will Light's daughter is murdered he looses all interest in living until he is approached by a local priest to paint some murals of the saints for a local church. At first he resists the idea but he eventually begins seeing the faces of saints in all the local townspeople and just can not resist the lure of the project.
7. All the Lies We Tell-- A story about love, loss, betrayal, and couple of complicated messy families. When Alicia finds herself divorced from Ilya she's not really surprised or that upset and they even manage to keep up their joint business but when his grandmother takes ill and his brother comes back home after many years away lots of old memories surface and Alicia finds herself thinking she married the wrong brother to begin with.

What did you think of Matchmaking for Beginners?
ReplyDeleteI had a hard time getting into it; I thought it was just kind of weird and lacking either in character development or something. I just kept feeling like it was just shy of being a really good book.
DeleteYou are an avid reader. I read both print and ebooks. Some titles I can't get electronically, especially local and older titles. I do like my Kindle for night reading with its built in light. A good thing to have in an off-the-grid home. - Margy
ReplyDeleteI tend to like print but do use ebooks when I'm on vacation or, yes, for reading at night or in bed with the built in light it's perfect for that.
