Weekly Wrap- Up: The Week We Went to an Alpaca Farm

Despite our weather being all over the place this week we managed to have a great week.  We went out on a few nature hikes and walks, visited a museum and an alpaca farm, and got free cones at Ben and Jerry's.  I'm pretty sure the highlight of the week was our trip to the Alpaca farm though.  Alec learned a new craft and I'm a bit fearful that a weaving loom might just make it onto his Christmas wish list this year.

The younger boys and I went to the Mashentucket Pequot museum on Friday.  We had a great day despite the rainy and snowy weather.  You can read more about our trip and see all the pictures we took by clicking here.

Saturday and Sunday all three boys were battling colds so we didn't do much.  I did take Ian to buy some shorts and a bathing suit on Sunday since he was feeling better but for the most part we just lazed around the house watching TV and playing video games.

We had another lazy day on Monday.  The boys worked on some schoolwork and we went for a quick walk outside in the afternoon when temperatures warmed up slightly but for the most part we enjoyed a quiet day at home.  The younger boys and I played a game of Scrambled States of America.  We also observed a LOT of nature right outside our windows.  We've had this giant bird of prey around that we know is not the bald eagle and we tried to use my camera and the binoculars to identify it.  Evan also saw some otters (at least that's what we think they were).  They had sleek long bodies and thicker tails than the muskrats so we're fairly confident that's what we saw.  The boys just lover otters and were thrilled to see some.

We had some snow flurries again on Tuesday and were so thankful that Alec's karate class was canceled since he was still feeling quite stuffy and was coughing quite a bit.  We worked a bit on some schoolwork and after lunch headed out to buy some gifts and let the boys spend their gift cards they got for Easter from their grandmother.  Lucky us that we discovered it was free cone day at Ben and Jerry's!

The boys and I met up with my sister and nephews to go hiking on Wednesday as soon as we finished up lunch.  We met at the local Audubon center and walked a few of the trails looking for early signs of spring.  The boys had worked on a bit of schoolwork in the morning and all put together the new Lego sets they bought Tuesday.  Ian cleaned his fish tank and all three boys went to play kick ball as soon as we arrived home.

We packed lunches and headed out to pick up my sister on Thursday. We were meeting up with our homeschooling group to tour an alpaca farm.  It was AMAZING!  This mom and daughter duo were fabulous with all our kids and we learned so much about alpacas, their wool, turning it into thread, and weaving with it.  There will be a full post coming up  on this soon but here are just a few of the many photos we took.

  5. Maybe he will be happy with a small kids loom? ha ha I'd love to go to an alpaca farm. I hear they are great livestock guardians! It would be pretty cool to have an alpaca instead of a guard dog. ;) ha ha #fabfridaypost

    1. Yeah, we were told they enjoyed herding the other farm animals too. They sounded pretty easy to take care of too.

    1. We saw quite a few pictures of them shaved and we thought they all looked pretty funny that way. They're a little silly looking anyway but shaved they're just hilarious.
