16 Awesome Book Series For Boys

My middle son is 10.  He taught himself to read when he was 4. By the time he was 6 he was reading chapter books.  He loves books; all kinds of books.

He devours books and has so many series he has read and fallen in love with.  He has a wide, eclectic taste in books and the level of reading varies tremendously from one series to the next.

He loves animals, fantasy, and silly fiction stories the best.

Here is a list of some of his absolute favorite Fiction books (we'll compile a list of his favorite nonfiction books later):

1.  The Secret Zoo-- He finished reading these a year or so ago and still checks Amazon monthly to see if the Author has made any others.   He loved these books about children who discover a magical world hidden behind the walls within their local zoo.

2.  The Wings of Fire--  He is anxiously awaiting the 9th book, which just came out.  Written in a world of dragons where dragons talk and prophesies are made.  Dragons battle and alliances are made.

3.  Dragonbreath-- Eagerly awaiting the release of the 11th book in the series, this silly book is filled with pictures too.  The little dragon and his friends get into all sorts of mischief together.

4. Spirit Animals-- In this world children must figure out if they have a spirit animal; a rare bond between child and animal that gives them power.  They use their powers to fight against evil.

5.  Fablehaven-- He has just started this series but read book one in just over a week (while reading three other chapter books).  While visiting their grandfather two children stumble into a secret world of fairies, giants, centaurs, brownies, goblins, and more.

6.  TombQuest--  A series of books written around the Egyptian Book of the Dead.  When Alex's mom accidentally releases death walkers Alec and his friend Ren must work together to defeat them, find his mom and bring her back.

7.  Flat Stanley & Flat Stanley's Worldwide Adventures--  We love these stories about a boy who was accidentally flattened one night when a bulletin board fell on him in his sleep.  He finds that being flat has it's advantages and has so many wonderful adventures.

8.  Genius Files-- Twins Coke and Pepsi are going on a cross country trip with their parents to their Aunt's wedding.  Unbeknownst to their parents Coke and Pepsi have been marked for death and are being pursued across the county by evil villains as they stop at such weird attractions as the Pez museum, the Spam factory, and a few giant balls of twine.  Packed with action and humor it's a story you have to read to believe.

9.  Warriors--  This multi- volume, multi- book set shows the life of warrior cat clans.  Wild cats who have shared the forest according to old laws, divided into clans, and straining to preserve their way of life.

10. Guardians of Ga'Hoole-- An amazing world of Owls.  These story follow one owl and his friends as they go on dangerous quests in order to save their kingdom.

11.  Dragon Keeper Series-- Set in ancient China this series of books about loyalty, friendship, and adventure is great.  Ping, an orphaned slave, frees the last dragon from the emperor's lair and realizes its' her destiny to protect and help the dragon and his mysterious purple stone.  Ping and the dragon must learn to communicate and trust one another while evading the bad guys.

12. The Last Dragon Chronicles-- A magical story about clay dragons who have unusual powers. Each book brings David Rain on an adventure to help and/or save the dragons.

13.  Amulet series-- This graphic novel series follows the story of Emily and Navin as they try to rescue their mother.  She was lured through a secret door in their basement and when they follow her they find a whole new world of talking animals, robots and demons.  The amulet is a necklace that allows them to use mystical powers.

14.  Jedi Academy-- If you have a Star Wars fan they'll love this series!  Following middle grade Roan as he attends the Jedi academy and deals with bullies, aliens, school dances and everything else that goes along with attending school at a Jedi academy.  Written in a similar style to Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

15.  Humphrey the Hamster Series-- A cute  and lovable classroom hamster, Humphrey goes home with classmates over the weekends.  He tries to help them solve their problems.  Told from the point of view of the hamster his world is full of surprises and adventure.

16.  My Weird/ Weirder/ Weirdest School-- Follow AJ and his class as they go through school with weird, weirder and the weirdest teachers and events ever.  Like the time they find out their teacher is from another planet (Mr. Granite is from Another Planet). These books series are hilarious and easy to read.
