Hodgepodge Wednesdays
Two whole weeks in a row! I nearly forgot to write this post at all once I copied and pasted the questions over I did answer a few and then thought I was all set for the week until I opened this post and realized I'd only answered one of Joyce's questions! Luckily, I was able to pull it all together in time to join in for the second week in a row for hodgepodge Wednesdays.
1. Fall arrives this week in the northern hemisphere. Does it look/feel like fall where you live? What's something you love to do this time of year that makes you feel its officially fall?
Yes, it starting to look and feel like fall here in Connecticut. The trees are starting to show some color and I don't think we'll get out of the 60's this week (though thankfully temps aren't falling below 50 at night either so really the weather is perfect).

| Monday's outfit |
I took this photo out my bedroom window on Monday and it was 57, windy, and you can already see the leaves are just starting to changing color. Though I see far more variety of color out while driving.
I tend to do a lot of hiking this time of year. I love the crunch of the leaves underfoot and seeing all the pretty colors.

2. What's a small daily task or chore that always seems to fall through the cracks when your schedule gets busy?
I'll use any and all excuses to get out of cleaning the house. It's always picked up and neat and I'll happily vacuum but things like washing floors, cleaning toilets, deep scrubbing kind of cleaning often falls through the cracks... until company is company.
3. What's something you're falling for lately?
I fell prey to a few fall sales this past weekend. I was only going to window shop then sit and get something to eat while reading my book while waiting for Evan and his friends who I took to see a movie. But I ended up buying some new books-- I can not resist a cute fall color or the fun sprayed edges that are all the rage right now. I love them. I also bought myself a couple of pairs of fleece lined socks.
4. Pumpkin is a popular flavor this time of year. Are you a fan? What's your favorite pumpkin flavored food or beverage?
I like pumpkin and do get excited about a few pumpkin flavored food and beverages-- one I've been enjoying this fall is pumpkin spice bagels. I mean I've only had 1 or 2 in the last month as I rarely eat bagels at all but they've hit the spot.
I have been thinking about whipping up another batch of these pumpkin scones that we made a few years ago.
5.What's something you wish would never change? Explain.
Oh gosh, I'm not sure... I mean I tend to hate most changes at first but I adapt pretty quickly and can easily see that a lot of the times the change is for the better. I do often wish fall would not change into winter as I detest the cold and snow and ice... but I do love the excuse to curl up by the fire and wood stove.
There are some changes I wish had never happened-- I do think a lot of the corner cutting most businesses keep implementing are not for the better. I miss the old days of air travel when it was fun and roomy and comfortable to fly, of having an actual person answer the phone or check out my purchases at nearly any store/business, of having a company that stood behind their product... but those days are gone and while I wish for them back I certainly and not going to wish they would never change again as I have hopes that maybe we'll make our way back towards something resembling that one day.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I had my first physical in over 5 years yesterday. I can't even tell you what I had to go through to make this appointment. Each year I call around looking for a doctor who is accepting patients and give up before I find one. I was so thankful that I enjoyed my visit; everyone was really nice... hopefully they'll still be there next year for my next physical. Now if I can just figure out how to find/get a copy of my old vaccine records we'll be good! The last 3 physicians I've seen all either retired or left the field of medicine shortly after I saw them...

Did any of the doctors you saw have electronic files such that you could access your information that way? It's great that you found a physician for your physical. I agree with you on your answer to question 5- great response. That picture of the scone looks so tasty- I am craving a scone now!
ReplyDeleteSadly, no. I had heard that since they were affiliated with one of our local hospitals that I could request my records though them but the only thing that turned up was old blood tests/mammogram/lab results but no immunizations. I'm kicking myself for not getting paper copies myself at some point (or maybe I did and I cleaned out my files too thoroughly?). I have one last ditch effort I'll try today but if not we'll muddle through.
DeleteI love pumpkin bagels and didn't even think of those until I read your answers! I'm glad you found a new doctor AND liked the whole practice! Sometimes the office staff can make or break it (like if they are rude, etc.), so it is great that they were all nice!
ReplyDeleteThat pumpkin scone sounds so good. I wish I could get pureed pumpkin at the grocery store where I order my food.
ReplyDeleteI also wish things became more human again. The other day I talked to someone at a hotline, he was friendly, competent and things got resolved quickly. It felt really good.
Good luck with the doctor! It's so important to find one you feel comfortable with.
I love the crunch of leaves, too. The pumpkin bagel with cream cheese would be good for me to try! I love your temps! It was so cold here yesterday and it was such a shock in a good way. I love the colorful book pages, too. They are so cute! Ugh about the doctor. Oftentimes it's easier and sometimes even better to see the nurse practitioner around here.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't look like fall here, but it feels like it. That pumpkin scone looks delicious! Visiting from Wonderful Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteI have been with the same practice for ten years but am on my 4th doctor there. I love the group and have liked all the practicioners I've seen thankfully. Two moved, one went to do a fellowship, and one left to focus on peds only. My doctor now actually has a house in our neighborhood which I thought might be weird but I've never seen her at the lake so it's fine. I think I'd like a pumpkin scone. I find the flavor of pumpkin in bake goods to be not as strong as it is in beverages. I enjoy hiking this time of year too. The heat is not so oppressive and the woods are so pretty in the fall.
ReplyDeleteWe are hovering around the mid 60s during the day but on a morning it is a lot colder which makes it feel like Fall. I still haven't started wearing sweaters though. What pretty photos from your hike.
ReplyDeleteThose look like great books and the pumpkin scones look delicious!
Good for you for finding a doctor for a physical! I had gone that long too (or longer!) before finding one I like here.
