Shows & Movies I've Been Watching this Summer
I don't watch nearly as much TV in the summer since we spend more time outside and I spend more time reading but we still watch TV as we're falling asleep at night or on rainy days.
1. The Boroughs (Netflix)-- This was just bizarre! A great cast though. Set in a retirement community there are odd things going on and when a new scientist moves into the area he runs experiments and encounters alien life and other assorted cover ups going on.
2. Filthy Fortunes (HBO)-- This show focuses on Matt and his company that move all across the company helping to clear out houses of hoarders (and their families) that ask for help in the hopes of also finding some valuables to make some money and offset the cost of cleanups.
3. The Art of Racing in the Rain (Disney+)-- I read the book and wanted to follow it up with the movie. It was just as sweet and as heartbreaking (at times) as the book.
4. The 4 Seasons (Netflix)--Oh I just love this show about old friends who are struggling to stay connected and deal with all their family problems as well as mid-life and some midlife crises. I had to watch the latest season and while I didn't remember much about the first season I did enjoy it.
5. Big Mistakes (Netflix)-- LOVED this one! It's truly both a riot and a bit unbelievable as Nicky (a pastor) and his sister Morgan are roped into a life of crime working for gangsters.
6. Roommates (Netflix movie)-- I really liked this one right up until the ending was revealed! LOL set in a college we hear a story of two dorm mates who start off the year as best friends but whose relationship starts to deteriorate rather quickly and in some really huge ways.
7. Superstore-- Set in a giant store (like Walmart) this show focuses on a few key workers and their relationship. It's rather fun how unbelievably bad these people are at their jobs.. and life in general.
8. Beach Hunters (Hulu)-- Much like My Lotto Dream Home or Caribbean Life this show focuses on people who are looking for houses-- specifically waterfront homes-- and tour 3 with a real estate agent before deciding which one to buy. I've only watched the first season or 2 and since they take place prior to 2020 it's funny that many feel like such a "steal" price-wise.
9. Homestead Rescue (HBO)-- We love watching the Raney family help out homesteaders all across the nation.
10. Ride or Die (Prime)-- Debbie and Judith are best friends who thought they knew everything about each other.. only Judith is an international assassin and when Debbie finds out she's pretty sure she wants nothing to do with Judith ever again but she really needs Judith's protection.
11. The Devil Wears Prada 2 (Hulu) -- I enjoyed this sequel to the first movie where Andrea finds herself back to working alongside Miranda Priestly at a time where print media is declining.
12. Clarkson's farm (Prime)-- Ian talked us into watching this one. He knew Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear and when Jeremy decided to start running his own farm in the Cotswolds.. well let's just say there is a huge learning curve going from TV star to farmer. It's sweet and it's funny.

Most of these sound like shows/movies I'd like to watch. I've only seen the Devil Wears Prada 2 from what you mentioned here. I, too, tend to watch more when I'm cooped up inside in the winter.
ReplyDeleteThere is something so cozy about cuddling up on the couch with a blanket to watch TV.
DeleteThanks for the reviews. I'm always looking for something new to watch. Actually, I've started watching the Waltons series with all the episodes from the popular show. Of all the ones you reviewed, the only one I ;ve watched is The Devil Wears Prada 2 which I watched on the plane to Seattle. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome! Gosh I haven't seen the Waltons since I was a kid.
DeleteDon't know.... we see at moment Agatha Christie. Or Doc Martin too.
ReplyDeleteGreetings by Heidrun
I've never watched an Agatha Christie show or Doc Martin. But we do have an American version of Doc Martin called Best Medicine that I really enjoy.
DeleteAlways love your recommendations- thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome!
DeleteSome good recs! I don't have HBO, but both of those shows sound good. I like reality and drama but not usually scary or alien type things. Tom and I started new season of Ted Lasso and I started Not Suitable for Work on Hulu.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm not one for scary or alien type things either except perhaps for Independence Day.
DeleteBig Mistakes is on our list. We still need to finish the last half of the Devil Wears Prada 2.
ReplyDeleteIt was cute but didn't hold my attention nearly as much as the first one.
DeleteI've barely heard of most of these! This summer I enjoyed the new Little House on the Prairie and now I've been watching Lucky.
ReplyDeleteI do have the new Little House on the Prairie on my list of shows to start this fall.
DeleteWe loved watching the Boroughs! Devil Wears Prada was a disappointment in my book. The first one was way better!

Definitely!
DeleteWe loved Big Mistakes and we're excited because they've already been picked up for a second season! I still need to watch The Devil Wears Prada 2!
ReplyDeleteYes! I was so excited to see season 2 will be out too; I need to know where they go from here..
DeleteI saw The Devil Wears Prada 2 in the theater and really enjoyed it! I didn't realize it'd be streamed so soon after, though. Ohh, I need to check out The Four Seasons!!

It's amazing how quickly shows make it from screen to streaming nowadays and we watched it for free on our regular streaming service besides.
DeleteI loved Big Mistakes and Clarkson's Farm. He's a mess...but in a good/ funny way!
ReplyDeleteYes! It's a riot and you just know his heart is in the right place.
DeleteYou have a lot of good recommendations here. We watched a lot of heavier stuff, so this is the perfect list for me. 😊
ReplyDeleteGreat! I'm so glad to hear that.
DeleteWe don't watch much during this time either, but I loved Racing in the Rain.

It was so great and I'm kind of surprised I never heard of it when it came out.
DeleteI haven't heard of most of these, but I need to add a few to my list!
ReplyDeleteI hope you like them.
DeleteRide or Die was lots of fun! I also enjoyed Racing in the Rain - both the book and the movie.
ReplyDeleteI equally enjoyed the book and the movie.
DeleteI loved Schitts Creek so this new show looks like something I'd like. I am in the middle of The Devil Wears Prada 2. I just can't seem to get into it for some reason. But, I do like what I've seen.

I loved Schitt's Creek too.
DeleteHaven't watched any of them. But then again, I don't watch television that much.
ReplyDeleteThis post reminded me of some shows I need to catch up on...oh, there are too many great shows to watch.
ReplyDeleteWe love Clarkson's Farm (although had to adjust to the language!). Another sweet farm/homestead one is The Biggest Little Farm. It's adorable and sweet but also I think a documentary?
ReplyDeleteI think I would like the hoarders one and I've never heard of the Homestead one, but would love to watch it!
I binge watched Big Mistakes - it is laugh out loud funny and the end was a twist! So good.
ReplyDeleteMy brother was telling me yesterday that I should watch The Boroughs, it does sound good and The Art of Racing in the Rain was such a lovely movie but I did cry lots. I liked The Devil Wears Prada 2 but did prefer the first movie. I love Clarkson's Farm, Jeremy reminds me a lot of my dad.
