Currently in August, 2026
It's the first Wednesday of the month and time for Currently with Amy. This month we're talking about what we're currently Savoring, Wrapping Up, Preparing, Remembering, and Organizing. I REALLY struggled with these prompts this month... sometimes I over think them for sure but other times, like this one, I just kept thinking... "nothing?" But since that's not a good enough answer, I dug deeper and came up with a few things.
Savoring-- These warm sunny days. Our weather is going to change sooner than I'd like. We've already had a couple of cool, crisp mornings where we can feel that hint of fall in the air but I am trying to soak up the last of these warm, sunny days reading my book or eating my food on the patio or deck.
Wrapping up-- I have the final 3 books I need to wrap up my 52 Book Challenge. I'm hoping to get around to reading them ALL this month but I may have requested far too many books for me to actually read since they have, once again, all seemed to come in at once. I just have "set in an ancient civilization", "two or more authors/ one pseudonym," and "non fiction about character in prompt 45" left.
These are the 3 I have picked out:
Preparing-- ALL the food. I feel like food prep and meal planning/cooking is just about all I do.

Remembering-- We went to a grad party on Friday July 24th at my best friend from college's house to celebrate her high school grad... but we had lost touch a bit through the years so I hadn't seen her kids since August of 2020 and oh boy getting to see them mostly grown up and reminisce over all the fun we used to had... that was so much fun! (now her and I still managed to get together at least once a year up until 2024 so it hadn't been 6 years since I've seen any of them... just the kids and her husband).

Organizing-- All the school stuff for both boys. I try to keep all the bedding together, all the clothing together, all the kitchen stuff together, etc. so that when we get to the colleges we can spread out and each person can tackle unpacking and organizing a zone. We have no idea what to expect with Evan's move in as we were told by his very good friend and their mom that they ran out of time unpacking and she was kicked out before she even got his bed made. I hope we at least have time to get him settled!

Wow, everything looks SO organized! Good job!! Do you think your meal planning/eating will change quite a bit with two of your guys out of the house? It will just be three of you, right? That will likely make a pretty big difference? Or is it not a number of people thing but rather how you like to have meals planned and organized?
ReplyDeleteHa! I am an organizational fiend. It will just be the 3 of us so I'll be more apt to make foods Ian likes rather than having to cater to all 3 but I don't anticipate much changing; even the amount of food I make isn't going to change much as my husband has been complaining that we rarely have leftovers anymore and that is his favorite thing to grab for lunch.
DeleteI was also going to say it sounds like you need a break when you have two less mouths to feed. I miss it, though! We just all need breaks when we have been doing it for too long.
ReplyDeleteYou are very organized with the college stuff. I can't believe they would kick you out! Now, our kids didn't want help with sheets, comforters, etc. They were like "we've got it". So, I did try to honor their wishes for the day.
Good job on reading. Reading outside just hits differently. Last year I started taking a blanket outside to read in the fall/winter. I think I will read Christina Lauren's book. I like them.
They start orientation classes after lunch so you have to be done as the students are required to clock in and attend. It sounds like the parents have meetings they're supposed to attend too.

ReplyDeleteAw, thank you. Most of Alec's stuff just didn't get unpacked-- other than this clothes and a few books most totes we repacked as soon as we sorted through them. Funny enough she's not my college roommate; we didn't even go to the same college but we met at our jobs during our college years... and she's really the only friend I made during that time as it's just completely different for commuter students (especially back then!).

He absolutely does! He pretty much told me he's not worried and can unpack himself if needed. That definitely helped... but I did tell him if that happens I won't have any blog photos! LOL
DeleteWe only had to move our kids once. My oldest was always able to leave his things (minus bedding and computer stuff) at the frat house. My daughter never came home after leaving. Her last summer with us was the one after she graduated and then got married in December that year. I can’t imagine all the meal planning you do! I barely do it for the two of us.

Oh wow; neither of the boys' schools are like that. You have to move out at the end of each school year and then move back in the next-- even if you're heading into the same dorm building.
DeleteThe dorm/apt items look so organized. I'm completely unsure what we will find when we go to pack the suv and truck with Jack's things! Ha, ha! I also often draw a blank with these questions. It is such a foreign concept to me that you will be feeling some hints of fall in August. Our heat just seems to linger through November! I do remember living in England and needing a light jacket in the mornings in August though.
