Currently in July

It's the first Wednesday in July and time for Currently with Amy. But since It's Wednesday it's also time to link up with Joyce's Hodepodge Wednesday.

1. What do you love most about your country?

One of the things I love most about our country is how vast and varied it is. Traveling within my own country and seeing so many natural wonders and beauty is very inspiring to me.

Haleakala, Hawaii

green sand beach, Hawaii

arches national park, Utah

Bryce canyon, Utah

zion, Utah

red canyon, Utah

Shenandoah, Virginia

Luray caverns, Virginia

Glacier park, Montana

Acadia park, Maine

Smoky mountains, Tennessee

Tampa bay, Florida

2. Your favorite patriotic song?

3. Red, white, or blue? Stars or stripes? Something you own besides a US flag with some combination of those colors or decorations as part of its design?

Blue! Blue is my favorite color-- in all its tones. Usually stars but if it's clothing I'd probably pick stripes.

I actually don't own a US flag nor do I think I have anything that combines red, white, & blue... I have some things that are blue and white and some things that are red and white but nothing with all 3 colors. Unless you count my latest nail design-- that I picked out for the 4th of July.

4. What's one thing you want more of this summer: fun, rest, adventure, connection, quiet, or confidence? Elaborate.

I'd like more fun and adventure but I'm pretty sure this is going to be a mostly quiet & restful summer.

5. What was your ultimate, go-to summer activity when you were a kid? Do you still do any version of that today? If you answered yes, does participating in this activity as an adult make you feel like a kid?

Probably swimming but I really don't swim at all anymore. Mostly because I got swimmer's ear so often (even right up through college!) that I pretty much never go under water anymore and it's just not as much fun.... plus I no longer have access to a pool and that is pretty much the only form/body of water I swim in.

6. Insert your own random thought here: My random thought is my Currently post.

This month we're sharing what we're: sparkling, grilling/cooking, heating up, using, and celebrating.

Sparkling – Literally my nails! I have been having so much fun with these glittery nails that sparkle in the sun.

The sun off the water; we've had lots of lovely sunny days with cool breezes.

Grilling/Cooking – We typically grill meats and then I cook up sides in the house.. I've not been so great at taking photos of what I've been cooking.

grilled marinated chicken with green beans

omelette with toast and berries

grilled pork chops with broccoli & pearl couscous

baked haddock with roasted potatoes & sauteed veggies

Omelette with roasted potato & sauteed veggies

Heating up – Leftovers? Also our weather. We're in the midst of a heatwave this week with temps near 100.

Alec made this lentil soup I heated up for lunch one day

heated up leftover green beans and potatoes to go with my omelette

Using – I like to make my own granola so I know what goes into it but every now and then I am tempted to try a new product I see in stores. This cold brew granola caught my eye at Target and while I do not like coffee itself I tend to really like coffee flavored things and this granola is yummy (though perhaps not the greatest ingredients as it does have "natural flavoring" which I hate that blanket term!).

Celebrating – Father's day. Also my birthday is coming up so I'll make sure we're celebrating that! We'll also be celebrating the 4th of July at the lake this weekend. But today I'm mostly celebrating the fact that Alec is coming home. I can't wait to hear all about his trip.

  1. That's a great gift bag for Father's Day!! I love homemade granola but the convenience of picking up a bag at the store is alluring- especially if it has a flavor that sounds appealing. Wasn't your weather fairly cool fairly recently? And now you're looking at temps close to 100? Oh man, that's a swing! Your sparkling nails are so pretty!!

  2. I've been impressed by Target's Good and Gather brand. Your couscous looks so good. I need to make that soon. Love all your meals with a view. My outdoor meals have stopped for this week due to the heat. I am still trying to sit outside in the sun a bit but just have a giant drink with me to stay cool!

I always enjoy seeing your meal photos--everything looks so delish.
    Love your sparkling nails.
