Acadia Maine 2026 Trip; Day #2
We woke early but breakfast isn't served until 8 so we had plenty of time to kill. We used that time to look up trails/plan our day, watch TV, and do a bit of reading. Breakfast was good-- maybe not quite as good as Daniel used to make but pretty darn close.
We started with yogurt/fruit/granola cups and blueberry scones. Then had mini quiche with herb roasted potatoes. I wasn't a huge fan of the quiche only because it had goat cheese in it and I've never acquired a taste for goat cheese. But everything else was yummy.
After breakfast we drove to the Flying Mountain trail head. It's a small parking lot on a dead end road but it was a wonderful trail. It's a lot of up and up and up at first but it quickly opens up to a lovely view.
You come out near a cute little rocky beach and then take what basically looks like a small gravel fire road back to the parking lot.
From there we drove around Echo lake to the Beech Mountain parking lot and started up the Beech Mountain trail (shown in green on this map). We chose to take the trail on the left and work our way counter clock wise which meant we hit all of the climbing up and up and up first.
Once we got back to the cars we decided to try hiking the Valley Trail (the red out and back trail on the same map at Beech Mountain)... but we ended up veering off onto the blue Canadian Cliff trail instead so we went from red to blue to the purple that took us back to the car.
These all loaded in a random order but should be from the Canadian Cliff trail (sometimes it's not easy to remember what photo was taken where!).
By then it was right around noon so we headed back into Southwest Harbor and got lunch at Little Notch Bakery then headed back to our room to rest and recuperate before heading into Bar Harbor for the evening.
Once in Bar Harbor we walked the shore path.
Had dinner at Geddy's-- I ordered their Maine Salmon
Then we ended our night with ice cream from Jordan Pond Ice Cream & Fudge. I had kahlua chip.
Then we went back to our room and saw this deer walking the middle of the road on our way there.
