Utah's National Parks Trip: Day 1 (Arrival)

We had originally planned to see 4 of Utah's parks and managed to squeeze in the 5th one at the last minute so we saw them all in one week. And we felt like we did a great job seeing a wide variety at each park too. Going with 2 teen/young adults I kept each day's schedule wide open and just went by a majority rules kind of vote on what to do when.

We were up very early on Saturday morning May 2nd to be out of the house by 4:30 and our way to the airport. We flew from Providence to Salt Lake City, Utah (with a stop in Mid-way Chicago). We saw sunrise at the airport.

Each flight was around 3 hours long and we landed in Utah around lunch their time. It was neat to see the snow covered mountains on our way in.

After picking up our luggage and car rental we found a place to eat lunch-- they happened to be serving brunch so I opted for yogurt/granola.

Legends Pub & Grill

Then we piled in the car for our 4 hour drive out to Moab. It was long but very, very pretty with ever changing mountain views and rock colors all around us.

(these mountain photos loaded in reverse)

We checked into our AirB&B, got settled, wrote up a grocery list and headed out to dinner. I didn't really think to take any photos of our rental but we were in a little cul-de-sac of these adobe looking condos. It had 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and great views of the mountains.

We had an amazing dinner here... but I was so hungry I forgot to take any photos.

Then we ended our night grocery shopping. We found pink pineapples! Have you seen these? I've seen them on other's blogs but I never tried them. Since they were the only pineapples in the store we gave them a try. They are very good (and were pretty cheap too which I guess is kind of unheard of with this variety?).

We finally fell into bed around 8:30/9:00 Moab time which felt like 11 to us.. meaning we'd been awake for 19 hours or more!

  1. It looks like a pretty start to the trip and you hadn't gotten to any of the parks yet :). I have never heard of pink pineapples. Those views are so pretty! Abby wants to return to Utah this summer. Not sure if we're going to make it; I have a feeling your posts are going to definitely make me want to return!

  10. What gorgeous scenery! But, gosh, what a long day! I'm glad you had such short flights as those can be so wearing. I also have never heard of a pink pineapple.
