Share Our Lives: Go to Lunches on the Go
It's the second Monday and time for Share Our Lives. The monthly link up where we share snippets of our lives.
This month we're talking about our go to lunches on the go.
I really, really struggled with this one. Since my kids were homeschooled I pretty much never packed lunches for them and since I haven't worked outside the home since my oldest was in second grade I have rarely packed a lunch for myself either. I finally decided to show what I typically pack for snacks/lunch when we go out hiking.
Now, most of the time we take shorter 3 or 4 hour hikes and end early enough that we can be back at the car and either home for lunch or stop to each lunch out somewhere. But when we do longer hikes we have to pack food and snacks to keep us fueled up.
My favorite "go to" lunch is fruit and granola. I pack them in our reusable containers with a little sandwich baggie of granola and a spoon. You have to keep the granola separate until ready to eat or it will absorb the juice from the fruit and lose all crunch.
I've also packed salad (with salad dressing in a separate leak proof container)
Pasta salad is a favorite all in one meal that is easy to pack.
A lot of time if I have to pack a lunch it's really just a collection of snacks-- an apple, some trail mix, carrot sticks, things like that.
I hope you join us next month when we'll be talking about the emojis we use most often.

Great ideas for snacks on the go (literally!). Emoji use- so fun! I will have to link up for that!!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteFruit and granola is the quintessential hiking meal right? Love it!
ReplyDeleteIt sure is!
DeleteSo much better than stopping at a gas station. Good ideas!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteIt is smart to pack your own snacks. If I am leaving the house for more than an hour or so, I usually have a snack with me.
ReplyDeleteI rarely think to pack snacks with me but I'm also not one that is going to stop and buy food while out; I just wait until I get back home to eat.
DeleteHaha, I just ignored the on the go part of the prompt!
ReplyDeleteI probably should have too; it would have made it so much easier!
DeleteBaggies of M&M's, raisins, and peanuts was the go to when my kids were small and we were out and about before lunch time. Its pretty much a perfect snack!
ReplyDeleteIt really is!
DeleteI love the granola and fruit. I find when I am out, packing my own snacks or lunch is the way to go. I used to pack snacks for my kids at the movies.
DeleteI still pack snacks for myself for the movies-- usually carrot sticks or almonds.
DeleteYum to all the snacks, especially the granola and fruit. Ruth@playworkeatrepeat
ReplyDeleteIt's my favorite!
DeleteMy lunches to go are usually just a brown sandwich with a slice of cheese stuck between.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds yummy but I can't really eat cheese anymore.
DeleteI wish I was one of those people who made cute packed lunches but I am more of a buy something while I am out type of person.
ReplyDeleteThe granola and fruit looks like a great snack for when you are out hiking.
I tend to be more of a "wait until I get home to eat" kind of person and rarely think to pack things OR buy food while I'm out.
DeleteFor me hard boiled eggs were always the center of any lunch for field trips. Of course we always had sandwiches (Germans love their bread) and an apple or something.
ReplyDeleteMy husband loves hard boiled eggs too but I just can not with the smell... If I eat them I tend to warm them up first as I do not like cold eggs. We packed peanut butter & jelly sandwiches all week last week for hiking and apples are great portable snacks for sure.
DeleteI don't pack lunches for myself very often either...maybe a day at the beach. I like cold veggie burgers, salad, and rice bowls.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely one of those people that need hot foods to be hot-- no cold pizza, or veggie burgers, or rice for me. Weirdly I am okay with cold pasta in a pasta salad (not with spaghetti sauce though!), and potatoes in a potato salad (but not fries or in any other form) so packing lunches can be a real challenge for me.
DeleteI'm like you, I rarely eat anything on the go. Occasionally, I'll bring a yogurt and some raisins or cranberries along, but it's rare.
ReplyDeleteIt's just not something I think of or ever regret not bringing along.
DeleteI need to find a good trail mix that isn't mostly peanuts. I never think of packing granola and yogurt or fruit on the go.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to make my own that way I can use more almonds, pecans, and cashews, and just a few peanuts.
DeleteFruit and granola is such a fabulous combo! I also love to add Greek yogurt to it to make a parfait!
ReplyDeleteI don't put in the yogurt while hiking because then I have to worry about keeping it cold enough for the yogurt not to spoil but that is my go to breakfast at home.
DeleteSo happy I found this monthly linkup Joanne. Thank you for sharing the SSPS Logo and sharing it with us at SSPS 410. Feel free to share more. See you soon
