Talking About it Tuesday #109

Evan and I should've been on our way home from North Carolina today. I wrote this post earlier than usual since I was going to be gone all weekend and leaving my laptop at home. I planned to have a post or two with trip highlights up soon. 

But when I was leaving home on Friday I had no idea a huge blizzard was on its way. Our flight home was canceled and it looks like the earliest we can make it home now is Friday. We hope! Though we are supposed to get some snow Wednesday, Thursday and Friday so who knows! Thankfully my parents don't mind the extra unexpected company.  
 
I'm updating this post from my phone at 3pm on Monday and we still have no flight booked home yet as the app keeps crashing with 2 days worth of passengers trying to rebook. It's still snowing at my house and we have a minimum of 2 feet of snow on the ground. Hearing stories of the storm from a far has been wild. My husband could not see the lake out our windows for much of the day!

I have no posts scheduled the rest of the week since I figured I'd be home.. I may try to finish some I had started from my phone app. But I have no idea when I'll get to see all the lovely posts you link up. I'll try my best! Have a great week and stay warm, my friends.

    Oh wow! Sorry you are stuck in North Carolina- it has to be frustrating thinking you would be home by now. On the other hand, you're "stuck" with loved ones so that doesn't make it nearly as bad. The East Coast is experiencing such a wild weather event with the blizzards. It's likely surreal to not be there experiencing it.

    Oh no! I am glad you are at family's home rather than a hotel, but still. I hate the uncertainty. I will hope that you get booked soon.

    Thanks dear Joanne for showing my post. I heard and read about that blizzard there and the lots of snow making chaos everywhere. Hope you will be able to go home soon. I don´t want a blizzard here...but some snow would be nice. It had snown a lot the last days...but now temperatures are rising up to over 10 degrees C and it´s raining. So the white is melting away quickly.

      It sure is! We should be home Friday night/ Saturday morning. But I think it will be crazy seeing snow piles from over 3 feet of added snow.

      Yes! I am so thankful we are with my parents. At least we have comfy beds, access to washer/ dryer, and plenty of good food as well as great company.

    I get so homesick that the combo of snow and being trapped away from my house would do me in! Hopefully you have warm things to sip and a good book to read. Hang in there, spring will come! Meanwhile, be safe. (:

      I really just wish I had packed more/ better. I brought my kindle to read but not an actual book and I miss having a "real" one.

    That's crazy that the airport would be closed for that long over a snowstorm. At least you're at your parent's house and not a hotel. Good luck getting home!

      Well they did get 37.5 inches of snow in under 24 hours. Plus all airlines had 2 days worth of passengers to rebook.

      Well, my husband is at home dealing with snow removal, I'm here with my youngest son visiting family and cousins one last time before Evan heads off to college. But we are having fun.

    Oh no! I'm sorry you are stranded. We had something similar happen when we were in Hawaii but our flights were booked for the following day so it wasn't too long of a wait to get back home. The blizzard was crazy and we couldn't see out our windows for most of the day either. Bring on Spring!

      We should be home Friday night/ Saturday morning. We could have flown home earlier if we were flying into any of the other airports near us but the one my car is at got the most snow the state has ever seen!

    I've been seeing on the news about all the stuck people! That is a bummer. Praying you get home Friday! I always struggle to go with the flow when things like this happen.

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. 15 Family Restaurant Games

When my boys were little and we'd take them out to eat I kept a small bag of toys in the car to grab on our way into any restaurant.  That way they would be entertained and a bit quieter while we enjoyed our meal. Now that the boys are older we don't keep a bag of toys handy but we do have few games we use to keep the boys occupied if they start getting bored or squirmy while we're waiting for our food or our check. While there are many phone apps, portable gaming systems and electronic games that could occupy my kids we prefer to use the time together at restaurants to connect with one another and so we tend to play games like: Hangman--   any restaurant that has paper place mats works well for this.  We take turns picking  a word and drawing our hangman stand then take turns calling out letters and seeing if we can solve the puzzle.   Tic Tac Toe-- This works best with pen on paper place mats but we have played making a grid with butter knives ...

TV Shows I LOVE

I have wanted to make a series about shows we're enjoying on TV for several years now but I am so inconsistent with it! I published two posts in 2019 about my favorite shows to binge/rewatch and my favorite shows to watch that season.  Then I remembered to write another post in spring  2024 about favorite shows and movies I had been watching  and once again forgot to ever write another one.  I have well over a year of TV shows we've "discovered" to share. The good news is it will definitely only list those shows I absolutely LOVED. Now these aren't necessarily new shows but they were new to me.    In no particular order those shows include: Landman- - set in Texas this show is a wild ride of oil billionaires, roughnecks, and relationships. Movies I've Enjoyed These Last 2 Years

I often watch movies but rarely think to share about whether I enjoyed them or not! I thought this was the year to start sharing more about what I've watched. So I'm starting with a large round up of movies I've really enjoyed watching these past 2 years. Not all of them were made during the last 2 years but that is when I "discovered" them.  I would happily re-watch any of these and, to me, that is a sure sign I enjoyed the movie!  I Like Me (2025)-- I LOVED John Candy movies growing up and this documentary about him and his life was so darn sweet.  Jerry & Marge Go Large (2022) -- I love a good based on a true story movie and this one about a man who cracked a mathematical loophole in the lottery. Then him and his wife revive their small Michigan town driving back and forth to Massachusetts to buy their tickets and create a whole company pooling investments from townsfolk that they pour back into the town.   Happy Gilmore 2 (2025)-- While not the most int...

Talking About it Tuesday #108

This past week I unexpectedly spent time with a couple of friends. Evan was headed to his friend's house on Friday and Thursday night that friend's mom texted and asked if I'd come too so we could talk and catch up while the boys did the same. It was so much fun.    Then Friday Evan and I set up plans to meet up with a different friend and mom and take a tour of one of the campus dorms (this friend goes to the same school Evan is headed to next year) so we spent much of the day with them yesterday. I was so, so worried about parking IN the city as I can not parallel park but I didn't let that stop us from saying yes and I am so glad we went.    The rest of this week should be pretty quiet since Evan is working and has my car but we leave (just him and I) on Saturday to head down and see my mom, aunt, and sisters and their families for a quick weekend trip.  I can't wait!   Thank for all your lovely comments last week.
