Talking About it Tuesday #108

This past week I unexpectedly spent time with a couple of friends. Evan was headed to his friend's house on Friday and Thursday night that friend's mom texted and asked if I'd come too so we could talk and catch up while the boys did the same. It was so much fun. 
 
Then Friday Evan and I set up plans to meet up with a different friend and mom and take a tour of one of the campus dorms (this friend goes to the same school Evan is headed to next year) so we spent much of the day with them yesterday. I was so, so worried about parking IN the city as I can not parallel park but I didn't let that stop us from saying yes and I am so glad we went. 
 
The rest of this week should be pretty quiet since Evan is working and has my car but we leave (just him and I) on Saturday to head down and see my mom, aunt, and sisters and their families for a quick weekend trip.  I can't wait!

    It sounds like you´ve had a nice week with catching up with friends and getting things done for college.for Evan. Jacob and I were driving in a small town´s downtown the other day that had a lot of parking spots available but that would require parallel parking. Jacob asked me if I was going to parallel park. I said, ¨Nope, we´re going to park elsewhere and walk more!¨ (The town has plenty of f parking lots that are just off of the main street. It was no big deal to park in one of those lots and walk!)       We really did have such a lovely week catching up with friends. Thankfully with the Monday holiday a few of the restaurants and things were closed so we found parking in their empty lots and just walked.

    Sounds like a much better week! Spending time with friends is wonderful. But like you, Parallel parking is not my forte. But my guy does it very well!

      Thank you! My husband and oldest son can even parallel park with trucks/trailers but it's not something I ever learned.

      I didn't end up having to parallel park; we found alternative places to park and just walked further.

Oh wow; what a weird, weird week it's been! Last Tuesday I headed off to Yoga class but less than 1/4 of the way through the class I was hit with what I was so sure was a stomach bug (cold sweat, dizziness, stomach pain, etc) so I left, went home, and rested.... and 4 hours later everything passed and I felt fine. Ate lunch, dinner, etc. Weird but glad to be feeling better I shrugged it off-- still have no clue what that was but I've felt fine ever since.    Then on Wednesday we noticed our thermostat turned red which means there's a problem with our heating system. Luckily my husband is one of those guys with skills and got it working again (since it was only 5 when we woke up the next morning!). The heat had stopped working again at some point in the night but the house was still 60 and he worked to get it going again and ordered the parts we need to fix it for good. Share Our Lives: How I Stay Connected with My Spouse

This month for Share Our lives we're talking about staying connected. I decided to focus on how my husband and I have stayed connected all these years. We began dating at 16 which means we've been together more than 30 years!   From the time my boys were very young I was very aware of the fact that my marriage was meant to be my lifelong relationship and while I'd obviously have a relationship with my boys for their whole lives as well (I hoped!) I knew it was my job to raise them to leave. The whole point of parenthood is to send our kids out into the world so while I wanted a strong relationship with all 4 of my guys I never lost sight of the fact that for me, my most important relationship was that with my husband.    Basically, it all boils down to I've never stopped dating my husband.     a date night outfit   We made sure to schedule date nights as often as we could. 15 Family Restaurant Games

When my boys were little and we'd take them out to eat I kept a small bag of toys in the car to grab on our way into any restaurant.  That way they would be entertained and a bit quieter while we enjoyed our meal. Now that the boys are older we don't keep a bag of toys handy but we do have few games we use to keep the boys occupied if they start getting bored or squirmy while we're waiting for our food or our check. While there are many phone apps, portable gaming systems and electronic games that could occupy my kids we prefer to use the time together at restaurants to connect with one another and so we tend to play games like: Hangman--   any restaurant that has paper place mats works well for this.  We take turns picking  a word and drawing our hangman stand then take turns calling out letters and seeing if we can solve the puzzle.   Tic Tac Toe-- This works best with pen on paper place mats but we have played making a grid with butter knives ...

Favorite TV Shows Growing Up in the 80's and early 90's

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. And through the years I had SO MANY favorites! Growing pains aired in 1985 which put me around age 8 and it stayed on the air until I was 15 or so; I'm pretty sure most people in my age group watched mostly for Kirk Cameron and all his antics.  I still have a soft spot for family sit-coms!  The Facts of Life aired when I was just 2  and stayed on the air until I was 11 so I'm sure the episodes I remember so fondly were either some of the later ones and then reruns shown later on when I was old enough to watch from the beginning.
