Talking About it Tuesday #103

I hope the first week of the new year treated you well. We all settled back into our routines nicely and even had a very short visit from Alec on Friday. Our weather was pretty perfect (for winter) and I even manged a couple of hikes and walks outside which was much needed. 
 
We had a very successful link party last week with a huge variety of topics shared. Thank you to everyone that participated. I can't wait to see what you share this week.

    How nice to have a visit from Alec. It seems like one theme of January is routine. For some, getting in that routine takes longer (based on school, work schedules) but at some point in January, everyone is generally in a routine. Thanks for the link up!

      It was a nice but very quick visit, him and his roommate picked up her car and all of his houseplants he had left behind.

    It has been unseasonably warm here too, which actually has resulted in lots of ice everywhere because it melts during the day then refreezes at night. UGH! Thanks for the party.

    The year started nicely...and a few days ago I could welcome back snow LOL. So that I was able to trace a trail for crosscountry in the fields between our villages.

      We haven't had enough snow for me to go snowshoeing in over 3 years now. We get lots of small storms but they mostly melt or ice over in between.

    It is hard to believe that January is almost half over! Glad you saw Alec and that the weather has been good for hikes. We still have unusually warm temperatures here and little snow.

15 Family Restaurant Games

When my boys were little and we'd take them out to eat I kept a small bag of toys in the car to grab on our way into any restaurant.  That way they would be entertained and a bit quieter while we enjoyed our meal. Now that the boys are older we don't keep a bag of toys handy but we do have few games we use to keep the boys occupied if they start getting bored or squirmy while we're waiting for our food or our check. While there are many phone apps, portable gaming systems and electronic games that could occupy my kids we prefer to use the time together at restaurants to connect with one another and so we tend to play games like: Hangman--   any restaurant that has paper place mats works well for this.  We take turns picking  a word and drawing our hangman stand then take turns calling out letters and seeing if we can solve the puzzle.   Tic Tac Toe-- This works best with pen on paper place mats but we have played making a grid with butter knives ...

Share Our Lives: How I Stay Connected with My Spouse

This month for Share Our lives we're talking about staying connected. I decided to focus on how my husband and I have stayed connected all these years. We began dating at 16 which means we've been together more than 30 years!   From the time my boys were very young I was very aware of the fact that my marriage was meant to be my lifelong relationship and while I'd obviously have a relationship with my boys for their whole lives as well (I hoped!) I knew it was my job to raise them to leave. The whole point of parenthood is to send our kids out into the world so while I wanted a strong relationship with all 4 of my guys I never lost sight of the fact that for me, my most important relationship was that with my husband.    Basically, it all boils down to I've never stopped dating my husband.     a date night outfit   We made sure to schedule date nights as often as we could. Talking About it Tuesday #107

Oh wow; what a weird, weird week it's been! Last Tuesday I headed off to Yoga class but less than 1/4 of the way through the class I was hit with what I was so sure was a stomach bug (cold sweat, dizziness, stomach pain, etc) so I left, went home, and rested.... and 4 hours later everything passed and I felt fine. Ate lunch, dinner, etc. Weird but glad to be feeling better I shrugged it off-- still have no clue what that was but I've felt fine ever since.    Then on Wednesday we noticed our thermostat turned red which means there's a problem with our heating system. Luckily my husband is one of those guys with skills and got it working again (since it was only 5 when we woke up the next morning!). The heat had stopped working again at some point in the night but the house was still 60 and he worked to get it going again and ordered the parts we need to fix it for good. A Very Valentine Hodgepodge Wednesday & 10 on the 10

 I decided to combine 2 posts into 1 today. Joyce's Hodgepodge and Marsha's 10 on the 10th. Both had a Valentine theme this week/month.   1. What's something recent that had you 'tickled pink'?    Alec stopped in for all of maybe an hour last Friday. He was actually in our area to pick up a mannequin head from one his friends for a play he's in at school but it was so nice to see him and hear all about how life has been going for him this semester. He is very excited about the Percy Jackson play and it was so neat to see as he's never shown any interest in theater (other than seeing shows!) before.  2. A bed of roses, everything's coming up roses, every rose has it's thorn, stop and smell the roses, rose-colored glasses, a rose among thorns...which rosy expression might currently be applied to your life in some way?
