Share Our Lives; How I Make Time for Reading

This month for Share Our lives we're talking about how we make time for reading. For as far back as I can remember reading has been a priority in my life. I have been known to sneak off in a party and read a book quietly somewhere...

Oh if there ever was a blog prompt that was made for me; this is it! I LITERALLY always have a book on me either in my purse or in my car. I read all the time. I am typically reading 2-3 or even 4 books at a time and have another one on audio that I'm listening to.

In the morning I prop open a book on the counter and read while I brush my teeth, blow dry my hair, get dressed.

I read while I eat breakfast and most days while I eat lunch too.

though this time of year I really miss sitting out here to read and eat breakfast!

I read when I'm in the doctor's, dentist, hairdresser, etc. Any time I am waiting in line I probably have a book open.

I listen to an audiobook when I clean the house, prep food for dinner/make a salad/etc, I listen while I walk down the street to our mailbox (it's a good 15-20 minutes round trip and I'm usually alone).

I listen to audiobooks in the car whenever I'm alone-- which is quite often. (I should also note that I listen to most audiobooks at double speed; except celebrity memoirs. Those just sound better to me at regular or 1.25 speed).

I prop open a book and read while I fold clothes.

I read in the car whenever my husband drives-- especially for long trips. I am so lucky I do not get car sick in the least. I can read while on a plane or train too.

I very rarely go out to eat alone but if I do you can bet I probably have a book with me then too!

On weekends I'll lay in bed for a bit after waking up and read-- usually on my kindle so I don't have to worry about lighting and there are those nights I stay up far too late finishing up a really good, gripping book.

I hope you'll join us next month when we talk about how we stay connected to our spouse/kids

    1. Thank you! The only time I don't read much in the car is if we're one more country/back roads and I want to see what's around.

  5. When I saw the prompt I actually thought of you as you read so much! It is so cute to see your book propped open throughout the day. I wish I had the motivation to read books.

  6. This is amazing! You have found some really creative ways to keep reading! I am a little more high maintenance than that, sadly. I also love reading outside! Ahhhh!

    1. Thank you! I definitely seem to pick books over music but I do make time for music occasionally too.

  8. I haven't gotten into audio books yet, but that would help me get through books a lot faster. I always read right before bed to wind down. I always liked reading on planes but my hands are full these days ha!

    1. I bet that would help you a lot! It was definitely much more challenging to find reading time when my boys were little.

  9. I've had to be creative in finding time to read these days, but it's my favorite thing! I'll try to read when I'm cooking dinner and then sometimes if it's a book I'm in to, I'll either read late at night or get up extra early to read haha!

  10. I don't think I could read while folding clothes - I'd have to keep your eyes on the clothes and then I'd lose my spot!

    1. I rarely seem to look at the clothes I'm folding... though it's easiest to read while folding towels.

    1. My mother in law says that to me all the time! It's funny but if I'm feeling queasy reading will actually help me to stop feeling so sick since it takes my mind off of it.

  14. You are the queen. I read in the car also, but usually just emails to get caught up.

  15. Wow, you literally read everywhere. And in the car! I already get sick when I read on my phone in the car.

  16. I used to walk home from school with my face in my book all the way...its a wonder I didn't get run over. Nowadays my attention span is so short, but I am powering through the books for book clubs and rediscovering my love of reading.

  17. Yes! I always have a book with me. Doctor offices, waiting in line, stopping at trains, waiting at a restaurant for my friend to arrive, bed time, bathroom, kitchen too! What a great way to read!

  18. I used to read so much more than I do now! I really need to prioritize it a bit better!
