Talking About It Tuesdays #90

We finally got some much needed rain last week and while I definitely missed getting out for walks and hikes it was also pretty nice to have an excuse to stay home and get things done. I finally got the house mostly decorated for fall. I'm just not into it much this year so I'm calling it "good enough." Since I'm the only one that even notices or cares, it's very low pressure to be festive. I can't believe it's already October tomorrow! The days and weeks are just flying by. 
 
We had another fabulous link up party last week. It was so hard to pick just a few favorites. So many of you have been off on these wonderful trips to Hawaii, Alaska, Banff, Europe, etc. and I just LOVE travel recaps. They constantly make my own travel bucket list longer and longer. It's a good problem to have. I also saw so many delicious recipes and adorable crafts I want to try. I was sort of dreading the arrival of fall this year since I didn't want summer to end but now that it's here and I'm seeing all these cozy, fall posts I'm getting excited for cooler weather and pretty leaves and yummy pumpkin, apple, or cranberry treats.

    We had lots of gray skies last week. The temps weren't bad at all though so it wasn't a bad, miserable gray and rainy week. The rain was much needed- not sure if you guys needed it or not but we sure did. Hopefully this week you're able to get out more. Fall is usually a great time to be out... thanks for the link up!

    Same with decor. I immediately donated anything I wasn't feeling this year because I won't feel it in the future, either! I was so proud of myself. I have taken a few back hatch loads of donations in the last couple of months in my effort to clear clutter. Isn't that the truth about the rain - forcing us to stay in and do those tasks.       I thought about it but some of those pieces I just bought a year or so ago and I figure next year I might be more into decorating; if not they'll definitely go. I'm not usually one to hold to onto much stuff.

      I used to enjoy decorating but lately I'm not sure I care much about it either. But I felt guilty having all those bins just sitting there.

    I've struggled to get into the season this year too, but mostly I think it's because it has still felt so summery here. My travel list grows each week too, and I am going to try the pumpkin cranberry recipe because often I feel like just pumpkin is too strong for my taste. Thanks for hosting!

      Our weather has been oddly warm too; in our 10 day forecast we have 2 days where it will be in the mid-80's! That is definitely not typical fall New England weather. I'd much rather cling to summer than embrace fall.

    Your comment about how you're the only one that notices the decor is hysterical. That's what happens when you have all boys. :). I'm glad I know another person who doesn't get that excited about fall too!

      Right? They really couldn't care less; my youngest has already asked if we are going to have to decorate for Christmas this year since we aren't going away. He'd really rather not! LOL

    I love Fall and I decorate for me...I get bored with things very quickly so changing my decor with the different seasons and Holidays is a much cheaper way to refresh my decor than remodeling would be!! Lol!! Thanks so much for stopping by!!

      Your love of decorating shines through! I used to be that way; constantly rearranging furniture, painting the rooms, making new crafty items to display but the past few years I've grown quite apathetic about it all.

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Movies like Mom's Night Out, Christmas Vacation, and Grown Ups make me laugh out loud. 7.  When my ...

Alec's Accepted Student Day at JWU

Last spring when Alec started his college planning I was pretty surprised that he only wanted to visit 2 colleges out of state (he visited a few in-state with his high school culinary class).  He ultimately decided to apply to just the 2 colleges we visited-- Johnson and Wales University (JWU) and the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). Both ranked as the #1 & #2 schools in the U.S for culinary and baking/pastry arts. Funny enough out of his 2 culinary teachers he's had in high school one attended each of those schools!  Photo of harborside campus from last spring JWU Future wildcat photo also from last spring Visiting the CIA over the summer We were lucky that both schools are easily visited in a day and we had a great time touring them both. Alec made sure to ask lots and lots of questions. Prime Purchases in August

I've been pretty pleased with myself and how little we've been using Amazon. Since we got rid of Prime in December I am definitely waiting until I have a large enough order to qualify for free shipping and usually only for items I can't find around town. So I've only place one order in July and 2 in August!  I won a $50 gift card (thank you Billie Jo!)  plus I found an old gift card from a Christmas or two ago and decided to splurge on a few items for our hiking trip. Since I never shared the few items I bought in July either I thought I'd add those to today's post. All in all for 2 months worth of shopping I think I did really great!    In July I bought a refill of this toothpaste; I just love it.    and I bought myself a new activity tracker when my broke while birthday shopping with my mom. What's Up Wednesday in September (2025)

It's the last Wednesday of the month and that means it's time for What's Up Wednesday. I feel like I have been struggling to play catch up ever since we went on vacation at the beginning of the month. It's been quite busy but I am not complaining.  What We're Eating:  I've been trying to be SO good ever since we got back from our trip (it's worked too as I've shed 4 lbs!). I've been eating lots of meals like this: I made and egg sandwich with lettuce and tomato for a late breakfast one day and didn't even need to eat lunch; I was still full!   I've been eating lots of veggie and hummus plates; sometimes with pretzels, sometimes with almond crackers, sometimes with homemade pita chips.  I tend to have fruit/yogurt/granola at least once a day; but I happily eat it for any of the 3 main meals.
