Highlights and Favorites: One Sentence a Day in August 2025
August was a great month! We kept busy and we had some really beautiful weather to enjoy too. Usually August is one of our hottest and muggiest months but this summer was surprisingly cool with fall weather making an early appearance and sticking around.
1. Thankful for taking a chance on seeing Back to the 80's. Gym with my mom, then spent the day at home with Alec since Evan had the car visiting a friend, it was rainy and fairly boring until the sun came out and I went for a walk. Then after dinner Alec, Evan and I headed to meet up with friends to see a local community play. 8,568 steps.

2. Thankful for a delightful evening with my husband.A beautiful sunny day where I got so much done around the house and yet still managed to read outside and soak in the fresh air and sunshine. Our day ended with a fabulous date night and some shopping. 7,706 steps.
3. So thankful for a fabulous walk; even if I was kicking myself for wearing flip flops by the time we got back home. Grocery shopping, I took a couple of naps on the couch, then in the afternoon my husband and I took a really long multi-hour/5+ mile walk and stopped 1/2 way home to enjoy some ice cream. 15,555 steps.
4. So thankful that once I got going for the day most of the pain in my hips and feet subsided. Gym with my mom, home to make up a batch of casseroles, then Alec, my mom and I headed out for a day of dorm/kitchen shopping and lunch. 9,920 steps.

5. Thankful for a fabulous evening playing games with the family. Did my nails, headed to yoga, spent a quiet day at home reading, painting, and cooking then my sister in law and nephew came over for a few games of corn hole and ALL my boys joined us. 7,207 steps.

6. Thankful for a lovely day at the botanical gardens with some of my favorite people. Gym with my mom, then the boys and my mom and I headed out to the botanical garden for the day; Evan took photos and Alec sketched while my mom and I wandered around. 8,096 steps.
7. So thankful all the home repairs went so well! Gym with my mom, Evan and I went kayaking, I went to the library and picked up my CSA box, then spent the evening helping Ian and my husband fix some broken outlets and a leaky faucet in our garage (that required a bit of light deconstruction of our finished basement). 7,393 steps.

8. So thankful Evan found another college to add to the "apply" list. Worked out at home then Evan and I went and toured Bryant University. 9,765 steps.
9. So grateful we were able to pull a last minute party off for my mother in law with nearly all us "kids." We had a birthday party for my mother in law at the lake then my husband and I went to exchange his new shoes at LL bean before doing groceries on our way home. 6,101 steps.

10. So thankful I didn't get a single bug bite while out hiking! I slept in until nearly 7 then spent a lovely day hiking with Evan, reading, planning a bit more of our Glacier National Park trip, and watching TV with my husband. 10,334 steps.
11. Thankful for a productive day cleaning the house and doing laundry. Gym with my mom, home to make a few salads, cleaned the whole upstairs and did all the laundry then had my mother in law over for her birthday dinner and we ended the night playing cards. 9,982 steps.
12. Thankful for a do nothing day that allowed me to rest in the air conditioning. Another super hot, muggy day so I did some pilates at home, paid bills, then went to run errands and spent my afternoon reading and working on the blog. 5,733 steps.
13. So thankful for good books that I don't want to put down. Gym with my mom, home to clean, work on the blog, get some reading done and we voted for the last time on our town budget this year. 6,898 steps.
14. I'm so thankful our back deck gets lots of shade in the afternoon so I can usually sit out there and read for a bit before cooking dinner. Gym with my mom, a quick grocery run with Evan to pick up some baking supplies for Alec, then went to pick up my farm box in the afternoon. 7,131 steps.

15.Thankful we have so many wonderful colleges so close to home. Another college tour with Evan; this time we check out Dean college and were home by lunch before we headed out for ice cream in the afternoon. 7.090 steps.

16. I was so grateful that we had no plans so my husband could rest all day without worries. Saturday I did my nails, read my book, and went for a walk to the mailbox; it was a quiet weekend at home since my husband hurt his back at work on Friday and was trying to take it easy. 5,744 steps.
17. Thankful Evan talked me into hiking even it was a bit miserable weather- wise. Evan and I went hiking after breakfast but it was so hot and muggy that we didn't hike super long and I was so happy to shower and change and hang out in the air conditioning the rest of the day. 9,458 steps.
18. So grateful our power came back on in time for a late lunch. Gym with my mom, we lost power for a good part of our morning so Evan, my mom, and I headed out walking while Alec went to get some food and my husband went for his doctor's appointment/x-rays. 15,303 steps.
19. So thankful for fabulous talks with Evan while we hike. I went to yoga with my mom, then Evan and I headed out to the library to pick up my summer reading prize before hiking around the dam. I spent my afternoon hanging out with my husband (who was waiting for a letter from his Dr. giving him the all clear to head back to work). 12,541 steps.
20. So thankful for some much needed rain today! Went to the gym with my mom, spent my morning making granola, granola bars, a summer squash lasagna, etc while it poured rain all day. 4,846 steps.
21. So thankful for perfect hiking weather! Worked on the blog and some housework before heading out on a hike with Evan around Pulaski then went after lunch to run a few errands and pick up our latest CSA box. 10,335 steps.
22. So thankful we were able to fit everything into the car for Alec's drop off. Gym with my mom, spent the rest of the day getting Alec all packed up, labeled all this stuff, packed the car, etc. We ended the night with ice cream for dinner. 10,631 steps.

23. So thankful that the move-in went so smoothly! We had a fabulous move in day with Alec and got to meet his roommates (well 2 of them anyway) before heading out for a nice lunch at Gregg's. 7,528 steps.
24. So thankful we have some nice hiking trails real close to the house for those times I don't feel like driving much. Grocery shopping, enjoying the beautiful weather with some good books and a lovely hike. 8,551 steps.
25. So thankful for some new comfy "after hiking" clothes I ordered for our trip-- and tried out before packing. Gym with my mom, I spent the morning in the kitchen and then the afternoon visiting with my mom and brother. 8,832 steps.
26. So thankful I finally found the twin XL sheet sets I put in a safe place in case we needed them next year (and then promptly forgot where that space was!). Took my mom to the eye doctor than ran a few errands before cleaning the whole upstairs. 6,058 steps.
27. So thankful the sprinkles on my afternoon walk never turned into actual rain (we need it but I really didn't want to get wet!) Gym with my mom, spent my morning cleaning more of the house and doing laundry and my afternoon blogging and reading before taking a little walk down the road. 8,723 steps.
28. So thankful for super productive days that just fly by! Gym with my mom, spent the morning packing, cleaning, doing laundry, etc. Then in the afternoon I picked up our CSA box, stopped by the orchard and visited with my mom. 12,002 steps.
29. So thankful for the pouring rain all afternoon; we really did need it. I went grocery shopping early then Evan and I headed out hiking before I spent my afternoon blogging. 10,457 steps.

30. So thankful for a beautiful afternoon with Alec, Evan, and my mother in law. Spent the morning in the kitchen making more marinara sauce, a pasts salad, and a salad then my mother in law.Evan, and I ran a few things over to Alec and enjoyed a delicious lunch out. 5,071 steps.

31. I spent my morning in the kitchen and then around noon my husband, Ian, Evan, my mother in law, and I all went for a nice long walk to the ice cream stand (4.8 miles round trip). 14,248 steps.

DeleteWhat a great month with lots of great weather because you have so many outdoor pics! I am starting to watch/track my steps and it's hard to get up where I need to be without a walk except on the day I crazy cleaned and went up and down my basement steps. Cleaning can be a work out!
