What's Up Wednesday in August (2025)

It's the last Wednesday of the month and that means it's time for What's Up Wednesday. Another month that has completely flown by! 

What We're Eating: This has been one of those weeks where I am just throwing dinner together each night based on what I can find around the house. So things like...

Grilled chicken with potatoes and farm fresh veggies from our CSA box

Burgers/turkey burgers with fries and salad

Spaghetti and sauce with meatballs and salad

A shrimp/ kielbasa stir fry with rice 

What I'm Reminiscing About: 3 years ago this month we took two teens with us to Disney & Universal for the week and had such a great time. It was so different from taking young kids with us but so much fun!  








What I'm Loving: We have had some really beautiful hiking weather! 
 

 




What We've Been Up To: All college prep all the way; between buying all the new stuff for Alec's dorm apartment and getting him all packed up/dropped off/set up, we've also been touring some colleges with Evan and getting ready to start the whole application process next month.

What I'm Dreading: Nothing at all at the moment! 

What I'm Working On: Now that Alec is off at school it's time to turn my attention to our Glacier park trip and get my packing list going!  

What I'm Excited About:  We've bought so many concert and show tickets for the fall and I can not wait to see Hadestown, 21 Pilots, Six, and the immersive Monet exhibit with my boys! 

What I'm Watching/Reading: Untamed (Netflix)-- So good!, Happy Gilmore 2 (Netflix)-- if you liked the first one you'll enjoy this one too, The Summer I Turned Pretty latest season (Prime)-- I'm slowly making my way through it, Death of a Unicorn (Max)-- save yourself the time and don't bother, Paradise (Hulu)-- another great one!, Barry (HBO)-- We're enjoying this one with Henry Winkler, Arrested Development (Netflix)-- Another Henry Winkler show I started after reading his memoir, The Hunting Wives (Netflix)-- I didn't make it through the whole season, The Pickup (Prime)-- it was Okay, Wednesday (Netflix)-- we rewatched season 1 before starting season 2 since my husband never watched it. I liked season 1 much better. 
 
  
I read 14 fabulous books this month and will have a full recap of them all up on the blog next Thursday the 4th for our Share Your Shelf link up. 
 
 
What I'm Listening to: I've always got an audiobook or two going! 

What I'm Wearing: Our weather has been all over the place so I've been wearing a little bit of everything.
 

















 



What I'm Doing This Weekend: We've been talking about possibly going to our county's agricultural fair but we'll see. 

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month: Glacier National Park! Our trips is coming up real soon and I can not wait. Evan also turns 18 next month and I'm looking forward to celebrating that as well as helping him find a job, open a checking account, get his first credit card, etc. 
 
What Else is New: Nothing that I can think of at the moment..

      I've only been to a handful of the National park so far but I have made it a life goal to try to get to them all.

    I'm so glad that everything went well with the move in to college and that things are going well with looking into colleges to attend. Glad your weather has been cooperating some- we're finally getting glorious temps though we need rain. Your nature pictures are so pretty! I can see how you're excited about Glacier National Park!

      Thank you! I do have to make a trip up on Friday to drop off a few more things that he forgot but my mother in law is looking forward to coming with me and seeing where Alec is living.

    This is the time of year for moving Big Kids to college, and in my case, a kid to his first solo apartment. Well, he's not a kid, but he does have some big life lessons coming up!

      I liked it a lot too and have heard they're supposed to come out with a season two. Though I did find it odd that hardly any of it was actually filmed in the national park!

    That trip sounds like it will be incredible! I loved touring college campuses. It's exciting! Loving your outfits...the weather has been all over the place. It sounds like its been a good couple of weeks!

      I do that a lot in summer when we need to use up fresh produce before it goes bad. But I did a pretty awful job shopping this week since I'm out of some staples like olive oil and garlic.. but I'm making do anyway because I just do not feel like shopping! LOL

    I have been doing a lot of reminiscing for some reason. Your photos from your Disney trip reminded me of some of ours…though not as many as you! I didn’t like The Hunting Wives Club, either. The whole vibe was just not for me. The unicorn movie was just bizarre. And, we laughed out loud at some of the scenes in Happy Gilmore! It was really a good sequel.

    That first hiking photo is fabulous! The reflection is beautiful! We took teens to Disney Paris and it was so much fun. It's a different experience with older kids for sure. Hope you have a nice rest of the week!

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. Each year near the end of December/ beginning of January I share the top 10 posts of the year but this year, in particular, I have noticed some much older posts that are still bringing in lots of pageviews and thought it would be fun to look back and see a top 10 list of all time.  I started my blog in June of 2012 and while so many of my first posts were long blocky, chunky rambles without any real photos of us and our family I just can't bring myself to delete any of them as I really do enjoy looking back and seeing how my blog has change and grown over time. Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Transitioning from Summer to Fall with Ageless Style

It's the third Thursday of the month and time for another ageless style challenge. This month Bo picked back to school/ transitioning summer to fall. Since I'm not heading back to school I focused more on transitioning an outfit from summer into fall.  I wore this outfit to tour a college with Evan and had hoped to talk him into taking my photo on campus but he was not at all okay with that. I finally settled on some mirror selfies and called it good enough.    I paired my jumpsuit with some flip flops and a trio of gold hoop earrings. I love a good one and done outfit. Since it was going to be in the 80's I wanted something cool yet professional-ish looking.   To transition this outfit into fall I'd add a topper piece with sleeves. I tried on 3 different jackets I had that would pair well with this jumpsuit. a white blazer a white jean jacket  my favorite is this black linen blazer though I could have swapped out my shoes too for something more "fall" like...

Summer in my Garden

My garden tends to show off the most in late spring and early summer. By mid- July/ beginning of August there isn't much color left anywhere. But those explosions of color at the start of July really make up for it!   This is the time all of my hydrangeas and lilies burst into bloom. My dahlias are still going strong!  I have lots of varieties of lilies tucked here, there and everywhere.  My hydrangeas start out rather light and get darker and darker each week; changing colors several times before fall fully settles in.  I have some pure white hydrangeas too that are such a fun and different variety than the blue.    My mother in law bought me this plant for mother's day and it's been blooming all summer! The mother's day hanging basket Alec bought me is still going strong too! By August the hydrangeas are turning a deep purple. Linking up with: Spread the Kindness,
