Botanical Garden at Tower Hill-- August 2025 Trip.

Last Tuesday, August 8th, both Evan and Alec were home and the weather was supposed to be fairly nice. With mild temps, light breezes, and just a bit of cloud cover (from the Canadian wildfires; not a storm) it seemed like the perfect time to head to the botanical gardens. Evan had been asking if we'd make another trip this summer and time is running out. The boys, my mom, and I spent a lovely day exploring the gardens. We didn't even cover 1/2 of the trails! 

This year they had metal sculptures added to all the gardens; they were really neat and all of them interacted with the wind to move and throw light everywhere. But I fully admit we really missed the rainbow ribbon canopies from last year (that trip here)!

And now for all the photos. I can't even bother to write what they are underneath as there are so many varieties and many I don't even know. But both Evan and I were snapping away all day!

This dahlia was larger than my hand!

























This metal disk had some sort of iridescent plastic inside so it kept throwing off a rainbow of colors in the gaps.

Favorite TV Shows Growing Up in the 80's and early 90's

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. 100 Days of Science #68-- Index Card Tower

My boys did such a wonderful job with their spaghetti bridges and popsicle stick bridges that I decided to look up some other fun STEM challenges.  I found a fun index card challenge that I thought they might like.  I handed each of them a package of index cards from the dollar store and asked them to build the tallest tower they could just using index cards.   Evan struggled quite a bit at first not thinking about folding the cards in any way but once we saw what his older brother's were doing he hatched a new plan.  Every now and then they'd stop to measure their towers.. being very careful not to knock them over. Ian build his tower on our coffee table making sure to use a nice wide base. Ian's tower was the tallest by just a few inches and Evan had the shortest. Each year near the end of December/ beginning of January I share the top 10 posts of the year but this year, in particular, I have noticed some much older posts that are still bringing in lots of pageviews and thought it would be fun to look back and see a top 10 list of all time.  I started my blog in June of 2012 and while so many of my first posts were long blocky, chunky rambles without any real photos of us and our family I just can't bring myself to delete any of them as I really do enjoy looking back and seeing how my blog has change and grown over time. Share Our Lives: How I Take a Break

This month for Share Our lives we're talking about how we take a break. I kind of struggled with this one. With my youngest turning 18 next month and no one needing much of anything from me, not working outside the home, and having more free time than I often know what to do with I'm not entirely sure what I'm supposed to be talking about taking a break from!  Mostly I feel like I spend the bulk of my time cleaning and cooking. We rarely eat out and I cook so much from scratch-- all our granola (well, not my husband's) and granola bars, BBQ sauce, seasoning mixes, breadcrumbs, pickles, jam, teriyaki sauce, etc. So I am constantly cooking or baking which means I feel like I'm constantly doing dishes.    When I want a break from that we plan a date night out-- usually once a month and I get a break from cooking.       Some nights we have a fend for yourself night; thankfully my boys all know some basic cooking since we pretty much never have leftovers. Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6.
