Spring in my Garden
I know it's officially been summer for a couple of weeks now but I never found the time to share some photos from how my gardens were doing this spring. It was a very wet season but the plants seemed to like that.
The hanging plant Alec bought me for Mother's day is continuing to bloom. I am loving this beautiful plant so much. With all the rain we've been having I've only had to water it a handful of times all season.
Though my plants are loving all the rain it has been a bit chillier than usual this year so many things bloomed late and slow like my rhododendrons.
My azalea bushes were really lush despite having whole branches that bloomed at different times.
I'm pretty sure this is called a pearl bush; it seems to like the spot we planted it in.
I bought this plant at Lowe's and within a month the color of the blooming flowers completely changed. I'm not upset or anything but I have never had this happen before. I do have what is called an everblooming hydrangea called Endless Summer that blooms one color and while the flowers never die all summer long they change color and get progressively darker but these blooms die and the new ones grow back in a deeper shade.
I have two of these flowering bushes too and had never had one with so many flowers.
My roses were slow to bloom but by the beginning of June I finally had lots of buds.
My peony plants were newly planted last year so they didn't bloom then (they don't like to be transplanted). I had no idea what color we had bought but this bloom was beautiful. Sadly 2 of my 3 plants only had one bloom and the 3rd hasn't produced anything but I have hopes that next year will be even better.
This one is a very pretty variety as well!
My honeysuckle has grown in so much it nearly swamps the giant rock behind it but the smell is just incredible.

Very nice, especially the honeysuckle. If your're a fan of fragrant flowers, you may want to try nicotiana AKA flowering tobacco. While most plants like roses smell in daytime, this one has a heavy perfume at night beginning at dusk.
ReplyDeleteThanks for suggestion; I had never heard of that.
DeleteSo bright, colorful and beautiful! While I'm sure too much rain could be a bad thing, it would take an extraordinary amount of it to be detrimental to your plants. They look fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I have had a few of my potted plants that have needed draining a time or two as we do seem to get many days of rain in a row but the ones in the ground are just loving the soaking.
DeleteAlways so beautiful- I guess we could be thankful for all of the rain when it produces beautiful blossoms like these right? :)
ReplyDeleteExactly!
DeleteI wish I was good at gardening! These are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteOh I am not good at gardening-- I joke that to live in our garden they need to be hardy plants because I have zero clue what I'm doing.... and I honestly hate weeding or taking care of them so they have to be low maintenance.
DeleteYour garden is amazing with all the beautiful flowers.
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you!
DeleteSo many glorious blooms! I think you are right... the plants are loving our rainy summer!
ReplyDeleteThey certainly seem to be; everything is so lush! Even most of our hiking trails are completely overgrown this summer.
DeleteYou have lots of pretty color in your garden. I have never seen a plant like that with the changing colors. Now I need to go to Lowes!! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I read that tag over and over and there is nothing on their about changing colors so I'm still scratching my head over that one!
DeleteYour flowers are so beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI just love flowers, and your flowers are so pretty. 😊
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteYour flowers are beautiful. I've never heard of a hydrangea that does that. How cool because you've got lots of "bushes" all rolled up in one! I love peonies but have never had any luck with them. Maybe, I'll give them a try next year here at the new house.

Yeah, I had never heard of it until we planted them ourselves; but my girlfriend mentioned she found some forever roses and loved them but when I went to the online store she recommended I saw the hydrangeas and decided to order those instead.
DeleteJust beautiful! I think the flowers that grow up north look so lush compared to some of ours. We are entering the dog days of summer here, when many plants struggle to bloom in the heat.
ReplyDeleteYeah, we don't often have that problem. In fact we've had rain for 3 days now. I will water my hanging/potted plants but never bother with the ones in the ground.
DeleteSuch beautiful photos.

Thank you!
DeleteI love seeing photos of peoples gardens! I am in Zone 4 and you def. have some different flowers than me. I love that honeysuckle! I hope the peonies do better next year... those are my favorite that bloom at the start of spring!

Me too! I found out this year that the more you cut and enjoy them the more blooms they get each year.
DeleteSpring flowers are gorgeous no matter when we see them and these are no exception.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteGarden looks amazing! Our hydrangeas change color too, but I have not seen flowers changing colors so much before. Fascinating. Do you think it's the soil? I wonder.

I wonder too!
DeleteYou can never have too much color in a garden, I always think, and yours is absolutely lovely and colorful. I really want to try to get more color in my garden too. It's a lot of boring green now....
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you!
DeleteBeautiful flowers and beautiful pictures!
