Share Our Lives: Our best Vacation Memories

This month for Share Our lives we're talking about our favorite vacation memory.. but there is no way I could share just 1! I tried asking the family but most of them had more than 1 favorite too!

Ian loved the fishing charter him and his father went on in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Ian with the captain and the shark they caught

later that same night with another fish

Evan remembers the Guardians of the Galaxy ride in Disney as one of his favorite memories. (Sorry no photo!)

As well as seeing the black sand beach on Hawaii and all of the photos he took there; he had a ball using the big Cannon camera with the multiple lenses and getting to see so much unique nature that we don't have around here.

My husband remembers watching the boys fight Darth Vader at Hollywood Studios; the camera man really got a great shot of Alec and his "mean" face. I rarely bought Disney photos back then (they didn't have the memory packages like they do now) but I HAD to buy a copy of that one!

Evan's turn

Ian's turn

Alec's favorite memories include the botanical garden on Maui and pretty much the whole Hawaii trip!

He also mentioned walking around "the world" at Disney-- weirdly all my boys always LOVED EPCOT and we often spent the most of our time there.

Most of my favorite vacation memories with the boys are from when they were young and since we went to Disney every other year so many of my favorite memories are from there.

I remember having to wait in line to meet Ariel "with her fins"... Alec was obsessed with mermaids and really wanted to meet Ariel but only if she had her fins and not her dress.

We vacationed in the off season so my boys often got signaled out. One year in Disney Ian had been eating a snack that turned his tongue a deep green and the wicked step-sister from Cinderella walked right up to him along the parade route and carried on a whole conversations with him.

The first time we took Evan to Disney he was terrified of all the characters... except for Chip (he cried when his turn was over that time!) and Snow White (he didn't want to leave either one of them and kept calling "No White" all through dinner).

Yes, we ate dinner with the princesses since Alec loved them so much and all the boys enjoyed collecting "kisses" all night.

Evan only had the 1 kiss from Snow White

Alec cracked everyone up on the bus on the way home when he announced that there was no way I washing those kisses off when we got back to the hotel

Ian tried to kiss one of them back!

While I have loved every family vacation we've been on, the trips with just my husband hold a special place in my heart too. It's only in the past few years we've been able to get away, just the two of us, for longer than a weekend.

But my favorite vacation memory of the two of us is probably from our cruise that we took last year; now we didn't love cruising above all else but we definitely found it very relaxing and it was the first time we took off together for a whole week since our honeymoon. Plus I loved dressing up for dinner each night!

I hope you'll join us next month when we share how we take a break.

    1. Aw, thank you! It was a lot of fun to be there in the off-season. Sometimes we even got to rides in a row without exiting and getting back in line... since there wasn't a line!

  2. It sounds like you have had some wonderful holidays! I am sure my family would all come up with their own favourites too. I know my kids loved our road trip to the UK and Scotland, but for me it was too much driving and packing and unpacking, though of course the scenery was out of this world. I loved our trip to Italy, especially Tuscany.

  5. Your family has had great vacations. Disney has always been a favorite of mine - both the magic kingdom and Epcot, but I think my favorite vacation was driving down the coast of California. The whales were just off shore, the otters were adorable, and there are always seals. I live in Florida but the Pacific Ocean is very different from the Atlantic.

    1. Aw, thank you. I have never been to the west coast and have always wanted to go. I mean we did see the Pacific in Hawaii of course but that's not the same as seeing the west coast.

  9. It sounds like you have had some fab vacations. How great that Ian and his dad could go fishing.
I would love to visit Disney one day and I am sure my fella would just for the Star Wars things. Aww! That did make me smile about when you first took Evan to Disney. Collecting the kisses is so cute!
    Fantastic photos!

    1. Oh yes, that whole Star Wars land is so impressive and I'm not even a huge Star Wars fan!

  10. I'm with you and could never pick just one. Trips to Disney have changed so much since we took our girls. They have to be planned down to the smallest detail and any spontaneity has been removed. I get that the crowds are larger year round so it's understandable, but it's different. I'm sure it's still fun though! The kisses on the cheek are a sweet and special memory for you I'm sure. So cute!

    1. We went just a couple of years ago and other than hotel and dinner reservations I planned nothing ahead of time and we still had great fun and managed to see just about everything we wanted. I actually felt bad for people on the bus that seemed so stressed about all the scheduled ride and character visits.

  11. How nice that your family has such wonderful memories of family vacations. Your photos of the kids at Disney brought back memories of our first trip to Disney when our little one was afraid of the characters..

  14. I enjoyed reading such wonderful vacation memories, Joanne. The boys "kisses" photos are so adorable! We took many fun road trips with our children when they were young but two memorable trips were to the Grand Canyon and then to Italy to visit the area where my husband was born and to visit his relatives before sighseeing all over the country for a month. We do like cruising....we have a few planned

  18. What wonderful memories and beautiful photos to cherish. It's such a good idea to ask the whole family their favourite memories as everyone has such a different perspective. I've often been surprised what memories have stuck for my kids when it comes to holidays. It's usually the really simple little joys.
