Birthday Week Favorites

 My birthday was this week and even though we couldn't plan a little weekend getaway with our schedules we still found plenty of ways to make it memorable. 

My sister sent me a necklace for my birthday; isn't it pretty? I love that it inadvertently matches the earrings my mother in law bought me when we went to the craft fair at the end of June (as an early birthday gift).

 

My mother in law also bought me a cute dress, made me a card, and gave me some $ to go shopping.

My mother and I went to the Wrentham Outlets to go shopping together for my birthday. We found some really great deals this year and I ended up buying lots of great pieces. I love that all the stores seem to run pretty huge sales/deals after the 4th of July


 We ate lunch at Tavern in the Square and I had a delicious chicken & burrata sandwich with arugula and fig jam. We didn't get home until nearly 4 so I didn't eat anything else the rest of the day as it was quite filling. 

 

My husband got me a bouquet of flowers and some Lindt chocolates as well as a new card making/paper crafting tool I've been eyeing called a Glimmer hot foil system. I've only used it once to make a handful of cards and I already love it!

 

We had my mother in law, mom and step father over for dinner last Saturday night and my husband cooked up some delicious rib eye steaks, mushrooms, egg noodles and I made a squash casserole to go with it all. It was delicious. My mom wrapped all the clothes we bought and the boys had gifts for me too.


 Alec made me a pineapple upside down cake (that we served with ice cream and whipped cream) and bought me a new pair of sandals I had been eyeing. 

 

Ian bought me some comfy lounge pants, a lovely pair of earrings, and a new book. Evan picked out a shirt-- all in all I felt well and truly spoiled!  

Sunday night Ben and I went to dinner just us two to celebrate. We went to Asados and shared their sampler plate; it was piled with homemade pita chips and hummus, steak, potatoes, rice, chicken, sausage, pork, some carrots, and it was all really, really good. 

My dinner outfit was all new; pants, tank, and sweater were from my mom from our shopping day and the sandals were from Alec.

 
definitely not a pretty meal but it was so tasty-- especially those homemade pita chips (We didn't even eat hardly any of the hummus but the chips were gone!)

We also split 2 desserts-- homemade vanilla gelato and 4 layer chocolate cake.

      It really is! Funny enough both my sisters hit great fall sales with their birthdays too so all 3 of us luck out on a fun trip with our mom.

    Happy birthday, Joanne! Your birthday week sounds fantastic with all your loved ones spoiling you. I love your new outfit for your birthday dinner. The dinner at Asados looks so delicious—funny how the not-so-pretty meals are often the tastiest! And oh yum to the upside-down pineapple cake—I haven’t had one in ages. My mum used to make them all the time for special occasions when I was growing up. Seeing yours brought back such lovely memories. Have a wonderful weekend!

Favorite TV Shows Growing Up in the 80's and early 90's

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Share Our Lives: Our best Vacation Memories

This month for Share Our lives we're talking about our favorite vacation memory.. but there is no way I could share just 1! I tried asking the family but most of them had more than 1 favorite too!  Ian loved the fishing charter him and his father went on in Tampa Bay, Florida. Ian with the captain and the shark they caught later that same night with another fish Evan remembers the Guardians of the Galaxy ride in Disney as one of his favorite memories. (Sorry no photo!) As well as seeing the black sand beach on Hawaii and all of the photos he took there; he had a ball using the big Cannon camera with the multiple lenses and getting to see so much unique nature that we don't have around here.  My husband remembers watching the boys fight Darth Vader at Hollywood Studios; the camera man really got a great shot of Alec and his "mean" face. Oh my goodness! How are we already 1/2 way through the month of July?! I feel like this summer is flying by at warp speed. Even with some rainy days and big storms last week we still managed to have a great time. I enjoyed having an excuse to stay inside and read without guilt for a couple of days.  I've been dividing my day between reading books and reading lots of wonderful blogs too. Our Favorites from the 4th of July Weekend: 2025

We had such perfect weather for our long 4th of July weekend and made lots of great memories too. Friday my husband was up early to smoke a couple of pork shoulders for his family's 4th of July party on the 5th. I headed to the grocery store to buy some fresh fruit then came home to cook up some new recipes. I was making a new turkey burger recipe for dinner and had some veggies from our farm box to use up so I whipped up a macaroni salad with fresh peas in it. We made a tossed salad and then I put together our lemon/blueberry ice box cake (also for the party on the 5th).  Ian was off with his great uncles for the day helping get set up and cleaned up for the family party so my husband and I went periodically to see if they wanted additional help. I spent most of my afternoon reading on the deck and/or patio.  Around 5 my family showed up to watch the lake's annual 4th of July boat parade. We all had fun watching the decorated boats go by.
