20 of My Pet Peeves
I try to keep it light and cheery and positive on my blog but the other day I hit send on a comment and noticed yet another typo... and I realized that drives me crazy! Then I started thinking of some of other weird and oddly specific things that drive me crazy and thought I'd share them. I hope you realize this is supposed to be more humorous and fun than griping but sometimes tone is hard to get across.
1. Finding a typo/grammar/spelling error after publishing a post or comment-- at least with a post I can go back in and correct but those comments are often just left out there and I always worry that someone will think I don't know I made that error!
2. Someone who clicks a pen over and over while thinking... the sad part I hate to admit is that I DO THIS! LOL.. but it only bothers me when it's someone else making the noise. Why is that?
3. Litter! I get why sometimes there is trash on the side of the road; like if you didn't know you had trash in the bed of your pickup and it flies out or if a trash bag falls out and you clearly don't want to stop in the middle of the highway to get it. That's dangerous and I understand but I can not tell you how many people we see hiking that leave trash on the side of the trails or the one guy we stopped behind in the city that opened his driver's door at the stop light and threw an entire day's worth of garbage out of his car on purpose!! I bet you anything there was a trash can where he was headed!
4. Dog owners that don't clean up after their dogs. If you want to leave their poop on the ground keep them in your own yard! There is nothing I hate more than being out hiking and stepping in dog poop... expect perhaps for seeing that the person put the poop in the doggie disposal bags and then leave the bags on the side of the trail. Who do they think is going to come along and clean that up for them?
5. Airlines that keep changing the times of my flight/ my seat assignment! I get that sometimes an airline needs to adjust it's schedule and I tend to book air travel far in advance but sometimes I've had a flight change 3 or even 4 times and why bother having me pick seats if you're just going change up where we all sit?
6. Drivers that don't use blinkers/signals or drive erratically. I feel like more and more lately drivers are just getting worse and worse; they drive so fast, pass in no passing zones, never seem to use their blinkers, and are often on their phones (and I don't mean talking! I see so many drivers looking at their phone screen instead of the road). It scares me!
7. Lights left on. So when I first listed this I was thinking of in my own house when someone leaves a room and the lights are still on but I realized that it drives me nuts that all the car dealerships, stores, and businesses leave tons of lights on all night long too. I get that some of the lights are for safety and security but I don't think any store that is not open needs to be as bright as day!
8. People who cut in line-- no one likes waiting; just wait your turn like everybody else.
9. People who push the elevator button repeatedly. Guess what? That isn't going to make the elevator arrive any faster.
10. People that flood the aisle of the plane the moment the seat belt sign is turned off. I've even seen this when we've been asked to remain seated and let those with short connecting times go first-- and the people in front of us were talking about picking up their rental car and getting to their hotel. That's just mean.
11. Group chats-- I get that they're necessary but that endless chiming on my phone drive me up the wall. I end up leaving the group 98% of the time!
12. Traffic (and those cars that think they don't have to merge!)-- Honestly is there anything worse than those people who wait until they are literally going to hit the traffic cones of the shut down lane on the highway before cutting you off despite the 10 or 12 "road construction ahead" signs they ignored?
13. When takeout food orders are wrong or undercooked-- I get it happens. At least when I'm eating at the restaurant I can get it corrected but once I'm back home? There really isn't much I can do (we live a good 20 minutes away from our closest take out places).
14. Slow moving people (when it's crowded)-- Busy sidewalks, in the airport, at Disney world at the end of the day... whenever there are large crowds and MOST people are moving swiftly I seem to always get stuck behind the slowpoke in the middle of the crowd that everyone is trying to get around. I get you might not be in a rush but please move over to the side and get out of my way.
15. Public restrooms without toilet paper-- I swear I am the worst at picking stalls that have zero toilet paper in them!
16. People that are rude to waitstaff or tip poorly-- I particularly hate when people get mad at or don't tip waitstaff for under-cooked or poorly flavored food because newsflash your waiter/waitress didn't go back there and cook it! Honestly if we just gave them all a living wage and did away with tips that'd be great (and don't come at me with higher prices-- several restaurants in our state manage to do just this and their prices are well within the range of everyone else).
17. Getting honked at for NOT turning right on red-- You may turn right on red but you don't have to and don't honk at me for not wanting to!
18. People on the plane that recline their seat fully-- I honestly sort of blame the airlines for this one; my seat space is small enough please don't make it any smaller. I get that a slight adjustment might be needed to get a bit more comfortable but make do with a nap sitting upright and not in my lap.

19. When you buy ultra deep pocket sheet sets do they not make the flat sheet larger as well. If I have a deep mattress and need a special fitted sheet to fit the whole thing... then I probably need a larger flat sheet in order for it to tuck in too (the same goes for blankets that I don't reach to tuck in).
20. Nail clippings-- yes, please trim your nails and toenails but also? make sure those clippings make it into the garbage can. I DO NOT want to find random nail clippings anywhere... mostly I say this because I find them all over my house and it drives me up a wall. In fact I was struggling to come up with this last one when something happened at the end of last week that had to do with nail clippings (I'll spare you the details) but my husband rather cheekily informed me I had just found #20!
Linking up with:
I literally nodded my head at every single one! Especially #12! The arrow or merge signs give you plenty of time, but people still ignore this making all of us who got over in backed up traffic waaay longer. If my husband is driving the truck, he straddles the line to not let people do that. But some still do even off the shoulder. I love tho when semis help by straddling. But it’s so frustrating. Man I related to all these!
ReplyDeleteYes, my husband does too but I've never been side swiped a few times trying to do that myself (I think my car is just too small!).
DeleteI can definitely feel some of those (and have some of my own added)! Especially the first one.
ReplyDeleteIt does good to let it out every, now and then, doesn't it?
Visiting from Weekend Traffic Jam Reboot
It does!
DeleteWe share a lot of the same pet peeves. People not using their blinkers is my number one! Group chats can drive me nuts as well. I have been known for turning the sound off on my phone for those. Great list!
ReplyDeleteI once left a group chat and a year later my mother in law used the same one to plan our Christmas brunch-- I was totally clueless! LOL
DeleteYes to these! I probably only have 1 or 2 that aren't really a pet peeve, but I can relate to soo many of these. Well said. Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteYes to many of these! I have one that is kind of mean, I guess. I hate it when people blow their nose at a dinner table. Please excuse yourself and go to the restroom. I just don't like the sound and it makes me think of what is coming out of their nose and that is not appetizing!
ReplyDeleteOh that is so gross!!
DeleteBut true!
DeleteOh these are just too good and I relate to so many of them BUT the people getting up in the plane aisles has really bothered me this year especially when they try to get in front of me when they are coming up from behind- oh I don't think so ;)
ReplyDeleteRight?! I mean I definitely get it if you have a real tight connection time and if you communicate that to me I will absolutely let you go because airlines are crazy with some of these connection times.
DeleteThese are all so good (well, bad behavior) and true. I don't like the sound of someone clipping nails as well as not liking to find clippings. You know something funny about comments- since I've been using a new Chromebook, whenever I write and make a mistake (two words in a row, left out a word like "a" or "to," etc. the "wrong" or missing word gets underlined. It's great for catching those little mistakes that happen when you quickly type. But it's made me realize how many and how often I typed comments with mistakes. Oh well, ignorance is bliss and now I feel like my comments must have way fewer mistakes so I need to focus on the positive!
ReplyDeleteYes! My old web browser did show mistakes with underlining the words and I really liked that but my new one doesn't do that. I often am just typing so fast that I'm not really proof reading until it's too late.
DeleteI agreed with allll of these, especially the dog one. I was noticing the other day that a neighbor was letting her dog pee on my new shrubs and it irritated me! My goodness, let your dog pee/poop and THEN hook up the leash and head out. Also, I hate to point out liter above...I think you mean litter? Ha! I do this all the time, too. Typos are my nemesis.
ReplyDeleteHa; thanks! They are my nemesis too!!
DeleteI found myself nodding along to all of these! Dog mess is such a problem where I live, if it's not on the ground there are bags laying around with the mess in. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteI'm in a few group chats and they can get annoying with the notifications and I daren't not look in case it's something interesting. lol
The dog one really gets me so mad. We live in the country and no one thinks their dogs needs a leash or to even stay in their own yard. It's so bad.
DeleteI'm right there with you on so many of these! Some of these made me laugh out loud, though. You're one of the nicest people I've ever met; who would have thought you'd have so many pet peeves?? 🤣 I'm kidding, but I really did enjoy this post. xoxo
ReplyDeleteLOL! Aw, thank you!
DeleteThis was fun! I have to say, that I agree with pretty much all of these!
ReplyDeletewww.chezmireillefashiontravelmom.com
Thanks!
DeleteI agree with lots of these. But it also makes me crazy when people merge too soon. They stop in the lane that's ending to try to get over early, when it would flow much better if they kept driving and merged naturally!
ReplyDeleteYes, very true! I try to merge as soon as I can but while maintaining my speed for as long as I can.
DeleteI love a pet peeve post! I was nodding along with all of these. If I had seen that man dump his garbage out, I would have yelled at him!! I have so many of my group chats muted, too many notifications, I'll just check in on them later.
ReplyDeleteI seriously thought about but figured he's just flip me off and keep on driving... or worse! LOL. It wasn't the greatest city or neighborhood.
DeleteThis is so true Joanne! I was nodding my head, chuckling and getting laugh tears.
ReplyDeleteVisiting today from WTJR
You and I are so alike. These are all mine too. 🤣
ReplyDelete#16 for sure
ReplyDeleteWe all have these...one of mine is when people are too closed minded about anything
Xoxo

It is pretty safe to say agreement is present and accounted for! I think my most agreed to is how waitstaff are treated...
