Throwback Tuesday: Computer Coding for Kids

*Originally shared May 13, 2015 when the boys were 11, 9, & 7   My boys had an amazing day!!! It was one of those homeschooling days that I know they'll be talking about for months, if not years, to come. There was a homeschool field trip to the Microsoft store for a free coding class that we were participating in. I was half excited and half dreading it; I knew the kids would love the class and the experience but I'm not a huge fan of driving through cities, in traffic, or to any place new.  Homeschooling has really forced me to try new things outside of my comfort zone.  We're constantly trying new things, driving to new places, and meeting new people; all things that tend to make me uneasy.  As usual it was a good thing we went. We had such an amazing day! I know I keep saying that but it really was amazing! And you just can't beat free! Some of my Favorite Sunset and Sunrise photos

 As much as I love taking landscape and nature photos I'm pretty sure my favorite thing to photograph are sunrises and sunsets. The color displays are incredible and I feel like even if I take 5 photos of the same sunset or sunrise each photo is just a tiny bit different. The lighting changes so subtly and yet so fast. 

I was reading A Grace Full Life's blog the other day and she had a post with a year of sunsets and sunrises and I thought it was just so pretty to see them altogether. While I haven't been paying close enough attention to do a full year of sunsets and sunrises I knew I had lots of photos from our travels and I thought I'd compile a list of some of my favorites!

      They really don't! I'm always so disappointed when I compare the photo to the sunset/sunrise in front of me but then when I look at them later they do look fabulous.

      We were so thrilled to see such pretty views in Tennessee from the back deck of our rental. It was a hairy drive up there but well worth the mountain views.

    I had a sunset picture on my blog today; I will always take a picture of either a sunrise or sunset, regardless of what it looks like afterward. They're my favorite! These are all beautiful.

    I have so many of photos of sunsets on my phone! The lighting does change so quickly.
    Such beautiful photos! I think the Sunrise on Maui is my favourite but they are all amazing!

    So many beauties! I love to photograph the sunrise especially because we have a great view of that every day. I'll take more sunset photos when we get back out on the boat. We get some of the sunset but not the full view usually. Have a happy weekend!

    Oh wow! I love capturing a sunset or a sunrise. These are all stunning! I think sunset in the great smoky mountain; Tennessee is my favourite, but you have really pretty views from your lake too! :)

When my boys were little and we'd take them out to eat I kept a small bag of toys in the car to grab on our way into any restaurant.  That way they would be entertained and a bit quieter while we enjoyed our meal. Now that the boys are older we don't keep a bag of toys handy but we do have few games we use to keep the boys occupied if they start getting bored or squirmy while we're waiting for our food or our check. Ian is starting a new film study unit in our homeschool.  He loves watching movies and when I found the Thinking Tree Film Study Journal I just knew Ian would love the opportunity to watch movies as part of his homeschooling day. I just love getting new ideas for books to read or listen to.   Oh wow did I ever have another fabulous month of reading/listening! I also ticked a lot more books off of my 52 book list (many of which happened completely by mistake-- which is really unusual when I've gotten so far into the list).  1. Favorite TV Shows Growing Up in the 80's and early 90's

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. And through the years I had SO MANY favorites! Growing pains aired in 1985 which put me around age 8 and it stayed on the air until I was 15 or so; I'm pretty sure most people in my age group watched mostly for Kirk Cameron and all his antics.  I still have a soft spot for family sit-coms!  The Facts of Life aired when I was just 2  and stayed on the air until I was 11 so I'm sure the episodes I remember so fondly were either some of the later ones and then reruns shown later on when I was old enough to watch from the beginning. 10 of Our Favorite Ways to Serve/Eat Pulled Pork

My husband makes pulled pork fairly frequently.  I started making pulled pork in the crock pot years ago and we've since tried a few different recipes (like this cranberry BBQ pulled pork ) but it wasn't something I thought about very often.  All that changed when my husband got a smoker as an early Father's day gift a couple of years ago!   Now, I feel like we have been eating pulled pork at least a few times a month (and when I say we I really mean they as I hardly ever eat any at all because I don't like pork or smoked meats).  He'll usually smoke up a few pork butts and shred them both then we eat some for dinner and sort the rest into a couple of freezer portions for easy, nearly ready-made weeknight dinners.  1.
