Sentence a Day in August

We had a pretty good month!

1. I spent my morning finishing up the last of the scrapbooking I had and ordered photos from July to start on. I drove Evan to his friend's house, picked up our CSA box, and stopped at the library in the afternoon.

2. Gym with my mom and then lots of food prep for dinner. Evan asked to go driving to the college so he can learn his route and I spent a very rainy/stormy afternoon finishing up my latest book.

3. Another unbelievably humid day with humidity in the upper 90's so I stuck to inside as much as possible working on making some cards and doing laundry.

Though I did sneak out for 10 minutes to soak up some vitamin D

4. Ian and my husband woke up before dawn to go deep sea fishing, Alec was out of the house by 6:30 to head to work and Evan and I were at the grocery store by 7:30. It was a dreary day and sprinkled on and off a few times so I mostly spent my day inside reading and packing up some of Alec's stuff for college before taking the younger two boys out to dinner at a local pizza place I had won a gift certificate for.

It began pouring right when we pulled up!

5. Gym with my mom, I read my book and worked on the blog, bought Alec some new pj's (at his request), and walked up to the mailbox with Evan in the afternoon despite the hot, sunny, muggy day.

6. Woke to rain and to spend a lazy 1/2 day in my pajamas reading my book, working on my painting, getting dinner started, making some mocha zucchini bread, etc.

I've got the sky and tree line mostly set; now to work on the grass and rocks..

7. Gym with my mom, another very rainy day inside. I worked on cleaning out my Google Photos.. and it messed up SO MANY of my old blog posts (where the photos just vanished-- despite my Googling to check and see if deleting photos would affect Blogger posts and having repeated assurances that it wouldn't!). I'll probably spend the rest of the year fixing them. *sigh*

8. Evan and I headed out very early for a little hike between rain storms; it was cool and in the 60's and we walked for a good 40 minutes or so. Then I spent another rainy day inside checking out Alec's college schedule on the computer, working on my blog, reading, and then picking up our latest CSA box before dinner.

9. Gym with my mom, blogging, reading... rain again and lots of it!

10. We lost power for a couple of hours mid-morning so Evan and I headed out to run errands. In the afternoon my husband and I went to drop off a riding lawnmower he was selling to an old friend; turns out his wife went to school with my mom! We spent a wonderful afternoon visiting and then we stopped so HE could get ice cream on the way home (I was so good an only ate 1 bite of his).

11. Started our Sunday at the grocery store and ended our evening taking the whole family out for a belated birthday celebration for my mother in law (and I totally forgot to take any photos of dinner!). In between I found time to read, get messy with some inks creating the base of a few cards, and decorate my nails.

12. Gym with my mom, worked on my painting some more, cleaned the whole upstairs, did all the laundry, finished another few cards then made salad, cut up fruit, and made dinner.

nearly there but I'm not liking the pile of rocks so I left it to dry and will try again tomorrow

13. Finished my painting, made a veggie lasagna for dinner then took my mother to the dentist's office for a small procedure.

I sat in the car and read while she went in

14. My mom and I went to the gym then I finished up my book before picking her up so we could all head out to lunch; Alec was working so he met us at the restaurant only to discover that our first choice pick was closed! We headed to another pizza place down the road where me, my mom, Evan, and Alec enjoyed a delicious meal together.

15. Cleaned the basement, went hiking for an hour with the boys, picked up our CSA box, and finished up another book.

That little dot is Evan.. I guess he got sick of listening to Alec and I!

Our box was stuffed to the top this week

16. Gym with my mom, home to clean the whole downstairs and got my new fitness tracker watch in... only when I finally figured out how to sync it at 2pm it erased all my 5,000+ steps from the morning! By bedtime I had more than 4,000 so I figure I must have gotten really close to 10,000... but I undid all that good with a really delicious ice cream dinner.

17. My husband, Evan, and I decided to hike up Mt. Wachusett then went for lunch on the way home. I had 12,131 steps by bedtime.

we saw lots of salamanders

I got the Mediterranean chicken salad-- grilled chicken, sauteed spinach, feta cheese, carrots, cucumber, lettuce, olives, shredded cabbage and tomatoes. It was delicious!! But I only ate 1/2

18. We woke Sunday to pouring rain but headed to the grocery store anyway. I spent my day reading, working on the blog, and doing laundry and then ended the day with a RZR ride with my husband before more rain made its way to us. 11,018 steps (though the watch counts any rock crawling by the RZR as steps so that's not accurate)

I made a couple of squash casseroles for the freezer

19. Gym with my mom, home to make chicken, broccoli, & rice casserole (one for dinner and one to freeze for later), then helped Alec clean up his room and finish packing for college. 10,376

It poured again

20. It was rather cool out but since I was sunny I went for a walk in the afternoon... I can not remember what I did all day though other than painting my nails. But I got 15,292 steps so I must have done something!

21. Gym with my mom then I ran a few errands and packed up the car-- we then found out that EVERYTHING needs to be labeled with name, dorm name, and room numbers so I went rooting through the car to relabel everything. Alec went to get a haircut and we enjoyed one last meal as a family of 5 for at least a month or so. (I forgot my step counter today or it died or something since it says 0)

22. Move in day-- we spent pretty much the whole day in Providence getting Alec moved in, eating lunch, and making sure he was all settled. 11,523 steps.

23. Gym with my mom, driving with Alec & picking up his college supplies (a notebook, some index cards, and a folder were all his teacher requested!). I tried making homemade pickles and relish in the afternoon. 10,581 steps.

24. I spent a quiet morning in the kitchen mixing up some meals, reading my book, etc. Then in the afternoon my parents came over to use my printer to print out the offer they got on their house! 6,469 steps.

I made a big batch of marinara sauce

25. Grocery shopping, food prep, kayaking with the family... we had my mother in law, mom, and stepfather over for dinner. 8,832 steps.

L to R: Evan, my mother in law, Ian, my husband

26. Gym with my mom, driving with Evan, cleaning the upstairs, talking with Alec to see how his first day of classes went. It poured in the afternoon but the sun came out after dinner so my husband and I went on a walk. 10,967 steps.

27. Evan and I went hiking then I cleaned some more of the house, paid bills, and went to Stop & Shop. 11,318 steps.

28. Gym with my mom, driving with Evan, then a quiet day spent at home (I could NOT get him to go hiking with me). We ended the night with a lot of drama from poor Alec at school; his computer was hacked to the point he can't turn it on and perhaps his credit card and banking info was stolen. 10,296 steps.

29. I talked Evan into hiking in the morning and then I spent my afternoon visiting with my mom before picking up our CSA box. 10,399 steps.

30. Gym with my mom (by the time I arrived home Evan was gone with the car to his first class/first time driving) so I turned on my audiobook and cleaned the whole house to keep me busy. Once he was home and we had lunch together then I went to pick Alec up at college for the long weekend.  7,135 steps.

31. My husband and I went to a funeral it lasted nearly all day- we left at 9:30 and got home around 3. It was such a lovely service for a sweet 93 year old lady we both adored. A measly 4,859 steps.

I was so happy to change into comfy clothes!

    1. Thank you! I am enjoying have a step counter once again... and that I'm doing so well with it. I honestly didn't think I was moving much but I have noticed that looking at my numbers in the early afternoon often prompts me to get up and go.

  9. What a busy month for you and your family. It sounds like you have had a lot of rain, we've had hardly any all summer but it's made up for it this week. It rained off and on for 3 days.

    1. I feel like it has been very rainy...not so much that we can't do anything but enough that the ground often feels spongy.

  10. I love seeing all that you're eating! I began eating less processed food last month, and I wonder how it's affecting you. (I feel much better already) I'm also in need of recipes...need to do some digging.

    1. Thank you! I was already eating pretty minimally processed foods so I can't say I feel a huge difference but I am loving that this time of year it's so much easier to do with so much fresh goodness around.

  12. I am always so impressed at how much you walk! During my vacation, one of the women was always reporting how many steps she'd done. Since I was with her, I knew we spent many days going over 15,000 steps! Of course, we also spent many hours on the bus on our butts! I'm hoping Alec got his computer all figured out.

    1. Aw, thank you! I bet walking around sight seeing included LOTS of steps! I do find I never have a problem reaching my step count goal when I'm on vacation (other than those actual travel days). Alec's computer is 100% back to normal... and we provided him with a reliable number to call next times something happens.

    1. Thank you so much! Those hydrangeas are such a fun variety; they are white and light green and light blue when they bloom and then they turn purple before that deep burgundy color as fall approaches.

  15. As much as I enjoyed reading about your August activities, I couldn't stop awing over all of your cute summer outfits! It has been very rainy here as well so I have spent most days erranding, choring, crafting, or renovating. My kids just started school this week so now I have to settle back into that schedule with them! Happy weekend, my friend!

    1. Aw, thank you! Starting around 3 or 4 we often had our boys sit on the floor of the kayak between our legs and ride with us in the kayak for short rides and then somewhere around 8 pr 10 started having them learn to paddle for themselves (though we tied a rope to our kayak so we could tow them home when they got tired).
