What's In My Handbag with Not Just A Mom

This month our Not Just a Mom group is looking at what's in our handbags.  I did a very similar post years ago.. and I'm betting not much has changed!

Before starting this post I did look back at my old post from 2020 (here) and funny enough up until the end of July even the phone would have been the same! The guy at Verizon said my phone was from 2016 or 2017 so it was definitely time for an upgrade.  I hate getting new phones though so I avoided it as long as possible.

Right now I'm using a Vera Bradley zippered tote; I pretty much only have Vera Bradley bags with matching purses and I have quite a collection now as I get one nearly every summer for my birthday and one at Christmas.

I always keep a tin of mints, my wallet, a cell phone, my key fob and keys, and a small bag inside my purse.

I try to keep sunglasses in there too but almost always end up wearing them around ALL day all summer and just put them on the side of the sink at bedtime and put them back on my head when I get dressed in the morning.

Inside the small bag I keep some bottles of hand lotion, some ChapStick, a few emery boards, gum and a small bottle of Ibuprofen.

And that's it! I was able to ditch the other small bag with tampons and pads after my surgery and since my boys are all fully grown I no longer carry any of their assorted odds and ends I used to have.

I do like a big purse though so I can fit a book in there when I'm going to the doctor's office or any sort of appointment where I might be waiting around.

I hope you'll join us next month when we look at our hobbies.

  1. I like the small bag within the bag- that is a great way to store small essentials. I also like your Vera Bradley bag and matching wallet. I love coordination of fabrics; if I had a VB bag, I'd definitely want the matching wallet.

  2. Your bag is gorgeous! I love the matching purse too. You really don't have much in it, I seem to carry a lot more around with me.

  3. I love the pretty tote bag. My kind of colors and it's wonderful that you get new ones at least once or twice a year. I bet you have a great collection. #MMBC

  6. I should start carrying mints in my bag too. And I CAN'T WAIT to ditch the menstrual products :) I do put my Kobo in my bag when I know I'm going to be waiting somewhere.

  7. This is a fun post Joanne. I call my purse a kitchen sink purse. It's full and heavy. Lol.

    1. Thank you! I used to have a kitchen sink purse when my boys were little.

  8. I'm all about a minimalist bag. I've never carried much in my purse. I once thought of ditching it all together but it just felt too weird - lol!

    1. Yes! I have a hard time not having one at all but often leave it in the car when I'm out and about and just carry my keys and wallet.

  9. I too always have mints and few tissues and a small pill box in my purse. I have a separate slightly larger purse I keep on the ready that fits a book which I take to doctors visits etc.. I just move my wallet from one bag to the other.

    1. I tend to just tuck my jacket or scarf through the handles and carry it that way.

  12. Thank you; it took me far too many years to come up with that simple solution.

  15. My purse always seems to be heavy even though there's not much in it. It's probably my wallet and all the change in it. No menstrual products is a good thing!

    1. Yes, I find I have to regularly empty the change out of my wallet or it weighs everything down.

  16. I'm impressed by how little you have in there! I bet it's so quick and easy to find what you want. I also LOVE Vera Bradley bags.

    1. Thank you! I like to keep a spacious bag so I have room for a book and other things I might need on any given day (like my big camera).

  21. I like to carry something spacious so I can toss a book inside, too! I have a feeling my bag is part of the reason why my neck is so messed up, though!

    1. It might be! I have heard that big bags pull on your neck and shoulder.

  22. We have similar handbag habits, but your Vera Bradly is much newer and nicer than mine! LOL And yes, a book! That's another reason I use the tote - so I can stick a book or my kindle in it and be prepared for a waiting room.

  23. Your bag is so pretty! I love the matching wallet. Your pop socket is cute too! I like that I carry a small bag most of the time (which typically fits my Kindle), but I do like when I have a bigger bag, I can throw a book in there.

    1. I could definitely get away with a smaller bag now that I have my kindle reader; it's much smaller and lighter than the old Kindle!
