Laundry Room Reorganization

One of my goals this years was to tackle our laundry room and come up with a better system for storing all our cleaning supplies.

I bought some bins just like the ones I used in our pantry re-do of 2020 and set to work.

Here's what it looked like before I started:

I had debated about repainting the room but ultimately decided it wasn't worth my time since I do like the color and it's only the laundry room.

I cleared everything out of the room that I could (so no the washer, dryer, shelving unit/system, or hand vac and it's attached wall charger).

Then I cleaned the walls and the shelves and put on some of these shelf liners.  I bought a few packages on Amazon years ago and as I tackle each room of the house I've been putting them on.  They're a huge help with the wire shelving units since nothing falls into the cracks anymore.

I had these new bins I purchased and began grouping like items together:  All the laundry cleaning supplies in one bin, all the rags in another, our "extra" cleaning supplies into one bin, the mop head pads in another.

The larger items were put back in:  I started with our laundry baskets, iron, and my cleaning caddy since those have to go on the shelf and then added in the gray bins where they made sense.  The laundry supplies over the washer dryer, the extra cleaning supplies tucked into the back corner since we rarely need to reach them.

I made up some labels for the bins using some of my punches and scrapbooking paper and tied them to the bins using ribbon.

I really like that our extra cleaning supplies are not really in sight as my family has a habit of just grabbing the nearest one and we'll run out things like pledge all at once since each bottle gets used equally.  I think this will cut down on that.

Our old mop and broom holder was broken and I FINALLY got my husband to put up this one that I had purchased LAST January in the hopes of tackling this job then.  It took me less than an hour to organize this room and I'm kicking myself for putting it off for so long.

Now, other than the trash can, everything is up off the floor.

  1. It looks so great! Our laundry room is painted a very similar color. It's been that way for years and I, too, sometimes debate painting it a different color but then I realize how much I like it so why paint it a different color? The bins you added do wonders to the room! Now I want one of those mop holders/ attachments things. Our brooms and mops are just lined up against a wall.

  7. This looks so good! We don't have a room, just a hallway, so we don't have a lot of space. Thank goodness for shelving and baskets!

  11. Isn't it so frustrating how those jobs we put off for days and weeks and months end up taking very little time?!?!? I do that too and get so annoyed with myself. Also, your laundry room looks great! I love how the baskets hide a lot of the items from sight and they look so uniform.

  13. How funny you said that about it just being the laundry room. You should have seen how I painted the one in our last house. I haven't gotten around to this one yet, but I will. Maybe because I spend so much time in there, haha.
I love how clean it looks now with the baskets!!

  14. Wonderful tips, Joanne! I miss our old laundry room! We had painted it a really deep teal color with white board and batten. I even had a chandelier in there. Our laundry room in the new house is in my walk in closet. That's where I wanted it, but I didn't think to paint it a really striking color. Now, Mike says he doesn't want to mess with moving the appliances. But, I've got two grown sons and a son-in-law so there may still be a chance for a glow up!

    1. That sounds lovely!! Our walls are only painted around our washer/dryer so when you pull out the appliances it is plain back there but no one knows that but us and the workers (and now I guess everyone else!).

    1. My husband suggested we cut the walk in closet out of what is now Ian's room and make a laundry room and I am so glad he did! We love having a room where we can shut the door and best of all it's right near all the bedrooms so no carrying laundry up and down stairs.
