Weigh in Wednesday... on a Tuesday!

With my What's Up Wednesday post all ready and scheduled for tomorrow, I didn't want to skip my Weigh In Wednesday post entirely this week so I figured I'd move it up a day.

I really stressed and struggled over the weekend since we were hosting a birthday party for Alec and he was making one of my favorite desserts--- cheesecake!  We also decided to just order pizzas for an easy dinner and I knew those two things were going to blow my points for the week...

I've already been struggling to stay motivated as I feel like I have been killing it this month-- tracking food like crazy, trying to accountable for every little bite, exercising more, drinking water, getting enough sleep, etc... and yet the scale is just not budging!

It is so hard to keep myself motivated to follow the program when it doesn't feel like it's working...

Up until the day of the party I had been doing great-- it was one of those weeks where I hardly ever ate what the family ate for dinner (which is pretty rare!).  One night they had tacos and while I usually have a taco salad I opted for a salad with grilled chicken instead. I didn't even eat any chips and salsa!

A 6 point meal with the veggie straws

Another they had steak grinders and while I used a tiny portion of the shaved steak to make myself a slider using my 647 Rolls (just 4 points in total for the sandwich) I paired it with butternut squash fries and salad instead of chips for another small 6 point dinner.

On the night they had waffles and bacon and fresh fruit and I opted to save my fruit/yogurt/ granola bowl for dinner that day so I'd feel like I was having a treat too.

Alec had really wanted pork fried rice made with some teriyaki pulled pork for his birthday party but I knew most of the grandparents wouldn't want to eat that so I offered to make it a different day during the week and it turned into a whole "homemade Chinese food" night.

I pulled together crab rangoon and teriyaki chicken fingers too.  I made riced cauliflower for me in place of the fried rice, skipped the pulled pork altogether I did eat a couple crab rangoon but I used a Weight Watchers recipe for them and cooked them in the air fryer.

just 5 points for this whole meal

Of course I ate plenty of quiche this week too-- oddly, though I do not like ketchup normally, I have really been enjoying a small portion of it with my eggs.

I surpassed my workout goal for the week!  Exercising for 295 minutes of the 250 minutes WW suggests (as far as I can tell his goal is based on my previous activity).

We went on 4 hikes/walks since we had such wonderful weather this past week plus I did a yoga workout, some weight lifting, & stability ball exercises.

I spent the days leading up to Alec's party debating-- do I just skip pizza and dessert and deny myself? Do I try like crazy to limit myself to just one slice of pizza (I always swear to eat just one and I never do!), or do I just admit defeat and go into the party knowing I'm going to splurge and will have to reset my behaviors the next day?

I finally settled on making myself eat just 1 slice of plain pizza and filling up on the salad I was serving on the side as my main meal and only eat 1/2 a slice of the cheesecake.  And that's just what I did! I planned around that meal all day and even with the splurges of pizza and cheesecake I still had a blue dot day!

My family quickly took care of leftovers the next day so I wasn't tempted to splurge again and went right back to healthy eating.

Even if the scale doesn't show I know I'm making all these small victories that are better for my health and long term well being.

  1. Sorry the scale is not budging- that has to be frustrating. But, good job on the balance. You enjoyed the goodies from the party but did not overindulge. Your meal plates look so good! Now I want to try to make homemade crab rangoon. Was it a lot of work?

    1. It is but I'm trying to remind myself that I'm not just doing this for the numbers! I've made crab rangoon at home loads of time-- it's pretty easy. The most tedious part is stuffing the wonton wrappers and sealing them.

  2. It sounds like you have been doing great! I am also struggling! I think you will see it happen soon. Your habits will add up and you are also getting so much exercise! Are you eating 30 grams of protein per meal more or less? Stay the course! You are being much more discipline than I am but I am definitely doing better than I did in December!

    1. Why do I feel like the numbers jump up so much faster than they come back down?!

  7. The scale can be frustrating for sure, but good for you for sticking to what you know works.

  8. Sometimes it is definitely better to enjoy those treats in moderation instead of trying to just cut them out all together. Way to go!

    1. Thank you! I was very proud of myself and I just know in the long term cutting sweets out is NOT an option. LOL.

  10. Ugh - the aggravation of the scale! But I will say your food looks amazing. And kudos to planning ahead...and making good choices. Non-scale victories for the win!!

  11. Ooof. The scale can be my nemesis sometimes, too. Honestly, it sounds like you're doing things right though, and sometimes it's less about the number, and more about the right choices and being healthy overall. Good job through the adversity!

  12. You should absolutely celebrate the small victories which will become habits over time. I don't know if I could eat just one piece of pizza so that is a HUGE win!

  14. I feel your pain. There is nothing worse than when you know you're doing everything right, and the scale doesn't move. But, it will, and you will know you've done the right thing!

  16. Joanne,
Thanks so much for posting this..I too seemed to have hit a plateau in January after Christmas...In December, I just tried not to gain any weight over the holidays as I usually can pack on 10 pounds or more! I gained a pound and lost it early in Jan. but the rest of last month was a struggle. I think it was because I had to adjust to going back on my program after just watching what I ate over Christmas....And with it being very cold here ( no snow though), I did not do as much walking as I would have liked to...I did manage to lose 4 pounds in addition to that pound I pained so that put me at a 40 pound weight loss since June 1st....BUT it was extremely hard to do that...I know I am losing inches but I have not measured anything since I started...I do hope that February will be easier for both of us and that we both can start losing those pounds....Keep up the good work....and thanks for the inspiration!!!
    Hugs,
    Deb

    1. Thank you! I really should have taken measurements so I could at least keep myself motivated that way and I'm kicking myself that I've never bothered to do that. However, I am determined and will not give up!
