Christmas Home Tour

I don't share a Christmas home tour every year since we often put the same things in the same place... but not this year!  This year all of my guys helped decorate; in fact I'd say that Ian put out 85% of our decorations this year.  The guys carried up all our totes from the basement and we discovered that I had bought a tree for our basement at the after Christmas sales last year and had completely forgotten about it!

At the very last minute we decided to put the tree I had just received and put up before Thanksgiving into Alec's room but fitting a full sized tree in his room meant we had to move ALL his furniture around.  While my husband and I were doing that Ian dove into the boxes and started putting things out.  I wasn't sure at first that I liked him taking this initiative but I really did!

I feel like I have all sorts of new decorations but really most of them were just put in new places.  I did go and buy a few (just 1 small cart! at Michael's) to "finish off" the basement but honestly I probably didn't NEED to.

Ordinarily I try to show home home tour photos starting from the front door and working our way through each room but my photos are all wonky on my computer right now and they uploaded in a rather weird and random order so I settled for grouping them by room and area.

Enjoy!

Our Basement:

For the kitchenette area I put some garland that runs on a timer above the cabinets and created just a couple small vignettes in each corner of the countertop.

We took a vote and decided we wanted to open and gifts and stockings in the basement this year so I ran some lighted garland on our tv console table and hung our stockings from there.  I also added 2 glittery trees that twinkle in the lights at night.

We put up a 6.5 foot tree with this adorable rustic star on top and some pretty ribbon I had bought at Michael's to make a wreath with last year.

Ian set up my village behind the couch on our mini table and while it is kind of mess of cords below; it looks wonderful from on top!

I added just a few little Christmas-y touches to the end tables and coffee table too.

In our kitchen we put a few decorations tucked in around our plants and on our windowsill. I bought some cute Christmas hand towels to hang off the handle on our oven too.

Our Great Room:

I tucked a few decorations in among the plants here as well.

Outside/ Front Entryway:

That metal wreath will get filled in with holiday cards as they arrive.

Formal living and Dining room:

My bedroom:

My plan had been to use all snowflake, white and blue ornaments on the tree but we have so many ornaments that we used all of them from our storage boxes to fill all 4 trees!

I did buy a snowflake topper and some snowflake glittered ribbon with matching fur/snowflake glitter tree skirt.  I also framed and hung last year's diamond painting behind it and it sparkles so prettily in the lights at night.

Alec's tree:  He picked out black glitter ribbon to wind around his tree and while I thought that was odd it really looks so good in his room!

I tried to take photos at all time of the day so you can get a feel for what the colors are really like but also see all those bright twinkling lights everywhere.

  1. I love all of the festive touches in your house! Very pretty. Your basement looks so good- I like the space where the stockings are hung with the lights about them. That will be a great place to open presents on Christmas. I love that your son has a full size tree in his room. My daughter Alyssa does as well. Her boyfriend decided that he wanted a full sized tree for his bedroom so they went shopping for one for him. I like how the young ones are into the prettiness and festiveness of the season!!

    1. I was surprised by how helpful and enthusiastic they were; usually they just drag up the totes and then everyone disappears until it's time to put the ornaments on the tree.

  17. All of your rooms look so festive and welcoming! I have serious envy of all of the space in your house! My husband didn't understand my distress at downsizing so much until he actually saw all of the totes filled with Christmas in the new garage! I've had to get rid of a tree (down to just three now) and have given several things to my kids. My daughter was overjoyed to receive my Christmas village as I just didn't have any place to put it. I love decorating my bedroom for Christmas as I spend so much time in it!

  25. I just love the enthusiasm here...and I sure hope the family will help when it's time to take things down..always hard when I had kids. Your tour was a delight Jo. I miss those kinds of days and nights but knowing I have passed on traditions and memories through our kids, and grandkids makes me very happy. Thank you for sharing your post for Wednesday’s Words and Pics. It is great to have you be a part of this blogging community & there are two more Wednesdays before a little break until Wed 4 January 2023. See you next week too I hope. Denyse.

    1. Somehow everyone seems to disappear when it's time to clean up/ dismantle. But I think I'm actually okay with that this year as I want to try a new system and just pack each room into their own tote (or 2!) and label so it might make it easier to put them out next year.

    1. Once I finally figure out a set up for my village that I just LOVE I'm definitely taking a variety of photos since I struggle with that so much each year... and I'm not liking it at all this year as there is a whole mess of cords on the ground that I strategically cropped out of the photo! LOL
