Frugal Ageless Styling

This month the Ageless style group is looking at fashion on a budget.  I have always been a frugal shopper and love looking for clearance sales before I'll stock up on clothing.  Lucky for me my birthday is right after the 4th of July when all the clothing stores put their summer stuff on clearance and start bringing in the fall looks.

My mom and I head out shopping on/near my birthday every year and I make out like a bandit with sale prices.  Add in store discount codes or credit card rewards and I often get whole bags of clothes for under $50!

Today I thought I'd showcase a few outfit ideas based on a pair of linen shorts I bought for this year's birthday paired with some items I already have in my closet.

These linen shorts from Old Navy were marked $18 and had another % off (though I can't remember exactly what).  While I'm not convinced they are the most flattering shorts on me they are suuuper comfy and I just love them.  The black color makes them so versatile too!

I paired them with this fun blouse I found on Amazon (that I used a birthday gift card to buy) and some old sandals.

I've worn these shorts just about once a week for the past month.  I've styled them with my denim halter top (found here on Amazon) and an old pair of Targe sandals from a year or two ago.

With an old favorite blouse and yet another old pair of sandals from several summers ago.

So I guess mostly I focus on finding pieces on sale that coordinate well with other items I already have in my closet and I try very hard to buy pieces I LOVE and will get lots of use out of for years to come.

  3. I really love clothes shopping but will usually wait for the sales or for the item that I have my eye on to be discounted. All your outfits look great and I especially like the denim halter neck top.

    1. Yeah, I rarely buy anything at full price either; even on amazon I wait until it has some % off.

    1. Thank you! It's funny because my mother was saying that my sisters' birthdays both co-inside with the fall clearance sales too.

  5. That pink top looks like mine! It is such a fun piece! I think we get better at shopping as we mature: finding the right colors and knowing what looks good on us and not just copying others. Love the royal blue on you!

  11. I like your shorts! I am on the hunt for some new ones. Not really sure where to look. Walmart has been pretty good to me in the last couple years so I guess I'll start there.

    1. I just wish they had white pairs that weren't quite so see-through as they would be perfect for summer.
