Monthly Musings: January 2022

I am so excited to join in with Holly and Patty today for their monthly musings! I just LOVE Valentine's day and everything that goes along with it.

1. Favorite Valentine's memory? Oh boy I'd be hard pressed to pick just one favorite.  While homeschooling we did Valentine's day up big with heart themed craft projects, Valentine movies, and all sorts of special little treats and surprises during the day.

2. Chocolates, flowers, both?  Both!  Though in all honesty I usually buy them both for myself and not just for Valentine's day either.

3. Favorite romantic date? I love a nice dinner out, just the two of us, at some new and slightly fancy restaurant.

4. Any Valentine's traditions with the kids? Not really, I tend to change it up and alter what we do as the boys age.  When they were little I'd make a whole special day of it starting with pink heart pancakes and ending with a big family dinner.  One year we put little hearts on their door each night all through the month telling them something about them we loved.  I always make them Valentine cards and gift them a small box of chocolates though; something they've assured me they still enjoy even as they get older.

Treat bags I made for the boys one year

Our hear shaped pancakes

Heart- attack labels on their doors

Alec's Valentine cupcakes he made one year for our family dinner

Examples of handmade cards

One year I made heart shaped pizzas with little heart pepperoni

another year we made peanut butter cookies with Dove heart chocolates

Our cupid milkshakes-- vanilla ice cream, code red Mountain dew, and twizzler straws

5. How do you show love? In all kinds of ways big and small.  Through acts of service-- especially baking and cooking and cleaning! Through gifts-- big and small. Through words.  By spending one on one/ quality time with those I love.  Reaching out with hugs, kisses, and a hair ruffle.

6. Do you decorate for Valentine's day? Nope.

7. Do you wear red or pink on Valentine's day? I tend to wear more red/ pink/ and anything with hearts starting in January and running all through February.

8. Valentine's day-- big deal or small remembrance? I like to make a big deal about it with little small remembrances-- if that makes sense?!

9. Favorite ideas for school Valentine's parties? Wellllll.... since my boys were all only in school a year or two we didn't have to do much but I LOVED making their Valentine cards and we always made sure they included some sort of food.  One year we made "of- Fish-ally yours" valentine with little packets of goldfish crackers.  Another year we made "you rock" valentines with little pop rock packets-- things like that.  I loved any excuse to break out my stamps and patterned papers.  (since all that was before the blog I have zero photos!)

10. Have you ever had a secret admirer? Not that I am aware of...

    1. LOL. I totally stole that idea from somewhere and was amazed I had never thought of making heart shaped pepperoni before; they were so easy to do with some kitchen sheers.

  12. One of my favorite Valentine's Day memories is that my dad would bring home a heart-shaped box of chocolate candy for me. He also brought one for my sister and a larger one for my mother. I can still remember the delight of sampling those pieces of assorted chocolates with different fillings inside.
