10 Books on My Winter Reading List

I am determined to read a few of the books I already have lying about the house this winter but I also wanted to mix in a few winter themed books. Another goal I have it so read the many, many books piling up on my Kindle; some of them from years ago!  So may winter reading list combines a little bit of all everything.

1. The children's blizzard-- I started this book over the summer but after reading just one chapter I knew I wanted to wait until winter to read it. A historical fiction novel about a blizzard that struck the great plains in 1888.

2. Beartown -- I really enjoy Backman's books and have yet to read this one.  In a town built around hockey, a violent act leaves the town reeling.

3. Home With My Sisters-- My family bought me this book last Christmas and I still haven't gotten around to reading it yet!  I'm hoping to read it by Christmas since it takes place at Christmas time but we'll see... if not I will break my own rule and read this book after the holiday.  These three sisters used to be close growing up but have lost tough over the years. They were prepared to spend the holidays apart, like usual, when their grandmother requests one last Christmas with her three girls they reluctantly agree.

4. The Grace Kelly Dress--  Another book I have had in my nightstand forever; it sounds so good though! Three generations of women are connected by the wedding dress of Grace Kelly.

5. Under the Northern Lights-- When photographer Mallory crash lands in the Alaskan wilderness in the middle of a winter storm she thinks this is the end. But a stranger rescues her.  Trapped with him in his cabin until spring thaw the two begin to bond but Michael is buried in his past, unable to move forward.

6. Rapid Falls -- another book I've had on my Kindle (since 2018!); Cara's boyfriend died over 20 years in a horrible accident that landed her sister in prison. Cara has managed to build a life and move on but Anna can not.  Released from prison and dealing with addiction, guilt, and shame she badly wants Cara's forgiveness.  As Anna begins to pull herself together though the memories Anna has do not line up with those of her sister and Anna begins to question what really happened on that fateful night.

7. Drowning with Others-- Ian and Andi are happily married when a car is unearthed in an old swimming hole in their town.  Their oldest daughter's journalism class starts delving into the mystery of what happened to the man.  Secrets secrets abound and both Ian and Andi having a reason for wanting him gone but as Cassidy digs deeper they are forced to face their past.

8. Along the Broken Bay-- A WWII historical fiction novel set in the Philippines.  I thought this sounded like an intriguing bit of history; most WWII novels seem to be set in Europe and I knew the setting alone would mean a whole different look at history.

9. A Fire Sparkling-- Another historical fiction novel that I thought sounded interesting (and have had on my Kindle for over 2 years now). Gillian finds a photo of her grandmother in the arms of a Nazi soldier and tries to unravel the truth of her family history.

10. The Speed of Light-- Simone is struggling with her recent MS diagnosis when gunshots ring out in the winter air at the university where she works. Huddled and hiding in fear her mind racing, Simone ends up examining the past year of her life.
