What I've Been Watching Lately

I used to have a monthly feature on the blog about the shows and movies I found to watch, then we got away from TV viewing for awhile and I had stopped.  But I have been watching quite a bit lately and thought it was time to bring it back!

On HBO:

1.  Sopranos-- My husband and I are already mid-way through season 6.  I honestly thought I was going to hate this show when my husband suggested we watch it and yet I can't help marvel at this mob-filled hit.

2. Young Sheldon-- We started watching the Big Bang Theory together as a family and I had always wanted to see Young Sheldon; all about Sheldon Cooper's childhood growing up in Texas.  It is so cute and my sons and I are enjoying watching this together.

3. Big Bang Theory-- I always loved this show about 4 quirky scientists trying to navigate socially.

4. Gossip Girl-- Admittedly I am only a few episodes into season 1 as I can only seem to take this show in small doses as it is filled with high school drama but I am enjoying it.

On Netflix:

5. Lovehard-- I really enjoyed this cute Christmas movie about a girl who heads to NY to find the guy she's been conversing with online... only things don't quite work out the way she planned.

6. The Great British Baking Show-- The latest season has me just as intrigued as the others used to.

7. The Movies That Made Us-- I love this behind the scenes look at some of my favorite movies I watched growing up. (Though I do tend to skip any episodes about movies I still haven't seen or didn't like)

8. Red Notice-- My husband and I just watched this movie this past weekend and enjoyed it a lot!  I tend to like both Ryan Reynolds and The Rock plus we like action movies with a bit of comedy thrown in.  If you liked Ocean's 11 or The Hitman's Bodyguard you'll probably like this too.

On Hulu:

9. Castle-- I don't know how I made it so long without ever watching this show! I love a good little murder mystery and this reminds me a bit of some of my favorite book series (sort of a Stephanie Plum meets Eve Dallas kind of thing). The chemistry between Castle and Becket is great and I just following all the twists and turns of the murder investigations.

10. American Housewife-- I've started the series over from the beginning and am enjoying re- watching a family favorite with my boys (or by myself!) whenever the mood strikes.

11. The Vow-- I found this movie to be so heartbreakingly sad and yet I just LOVED it.  I was really surprised to find it was based on a true story too.  This couple is in a car accident and the wife wakes up unable to remember anything about their life together.  Her last memory is of being in law school, engaged to another man.

12. 911-- One of the few shows that we are still watching; we dropped so many of our favorite shows during the pandemic and turned to older movies & shows for a bit of escapism.

13. The Goldbergs-- We used to watch this show as a family each week but I think I am the only one still watching.  It's been fun this season watching them try and plan Erica's wedding.

14.  Only Murders in the Building-- I really enjoyed this show! Another fun little murder mystery and I am huge fans of both Martin Short and Steve Martin.  I swear at one time I suspected everyone in the building!

Have you been watching anything good?! I'm always on the hunt for new shows to watch.

  11. We binged watched all the prior Great British Baking shows and now wonder who will win this year--I favor Giuseppe! We also watched Only Murder in the Buildings...and the Sopranos years ago. I recommend "Maid"--a real eye opener as to how many families struggle with dysfunction and also "McCartney " in which Paul McCartney discusses some of the inspiration behind the Beatles music.

    1. I favor Giuseppe too! I wanted to read Maid first (well the book the show is based on and then watch the show). I don't really know much about the Beatles or their music so I'm not sure if I'd get much out of McCartney but I'll give it a try!

  12. I have been watching a few of those too. I do want to watch Red Notice. I just started In the Dark on Netflix. It is dark, but good.

    1. Once daylight savings time hits we tend to spend most nights at home watching TV. It's just too dark and too cold to venture out. LOL

  15. Loved the recap. I just added Red Notice to my Netflix list this weekend.

  16. We just get hooked on a show and then they discontinue it or we have to wait forever and a day for new season. I am too old for that. I cannot remember what happened from one day to the next, much less over months and months. Just finished the first season of Maid. We are enjoying The Morning Show. Need to try a couple of these.

    1. Yes, I hate that! I often try to find old shows that are completely finished filming so I don't have to worry about that anymore.

  17. I only watched one episode of Rescue 911 - is it worth continuing?! I'm rewatching Bones while I work these days, and we recently discovered The Expanse, which we love!

  19. We loved The Sopranos but I could not re-watch it! I used to watch The Goldbergs but it's been awhile. I like that are "local" to my area. We just watched Love Hard and Red Notice and liked them both. We're making our way through Only Murders. I thought American Housewife was cute too but I stopped watching it after a few seasons.

    1. I don't think I could re-watch the Sopranos either.. much too violent for me. But I can not turn away until I know how it all ends!

  20. It's great you've been able to enjoy watching so many shows! My Netflix queue is longer than I ever have time for, haha! I did used to enjoy watching big bang theory but haven't watched it in a while - we didn't bother getting a TV aerial installed on our new house as we just stream shows most of the time so our regular evening viewing of the show doesn't happen any more, haha!

Hope that your week is going well :)

  21. We loved Big Bang and I loved Gossip Girl, too! We binged GG last year during the pandemic and it was so good! I don't know why I didn't watch it when it was on regular TV. I have Lovehard and Red Notice on my list so I'm glad that you liked them both!
