Strawberry Pinwheels

 We were looking for something quick and tasty to whip up for a party that Alec was going to.  We needed to make something we had all ingredients on hand for and something that wouldn't need plates and forks to eat.  


We made up a recipe on the spot using some puff pastry I had in the fridge and just a few simple ingredients found in our fridge.  They were a huge hit at his party! 

Ingredients: Makes about 16 Pinwheels

1 Puff Pastry sheet

8 ounces of cream cheese, softened

2 Tablespoons sugar

1 tsp. vanilla extract

1 egg yolk

strawberry all fruit spread (I would guess we used about a tablespoon or two?) 


First off he set the puff pastry on the counter to thaw and used the stand mixer bowl to whip together the cream cheese, sugar, extract, and yolk.

On a lightly floured surface he rolled out the puff pastry dough and spread a layer of the sweetened cream cheese over it.  Then gently spread the strawberry fruit spread over the cream cheese.  He found it easiest to drop little dots of the strawberry spread all over and then gently spread it around with the back of the spoon.


Once he had a nice even coating over the whole pastry sheet he rolled it tightly on the long side so he had one long skinny roll to work with.  

Using a nice sharp knife he made 1 inch slices and put each roll onto a parchment lined baking sheet. 


All his pinwheels fit on one baking sheet and we made approximately 16 of them.  


We found a recipe on the box of puff pastry for some sort of savory pinwheels so we used that cooking time for our strawberry pinwheels. We baked them in a preheated oven at 400 for 20 minutes.  By then the pastry was a nice flaky golden brown and the cheese spread was cooked through. 

They looked delicious! 


This would be so easy to make ahead and have ready to pop in the oven for Christmas morning!  Just slice and bake and serve.
