Friday Favorites: The first week of school

Typically I write my Friday Favorites post as the week progresses but this week it was Thursday morning before I even thought about it.  Blogging has just not been holding my attention lately and I'm debating about taking a break from it for awhile.  Then I feel sort of guilty that we wouldn't have this running account of our lives and keep at it...  that's part of why many of favorites have no photo attached this week.  I haven't been taking many photos either.

Anyway it was a whirlwind of a week with the start of back to school and trying to find a new routine for us all.

It was just beautiful out Friday morning and I decided to go kayaking.  None of the boys wanted to go so I spent an hour paddling around the lake by myself. It was so peaceful!

Saturday my husband and I took the RZR back to the dealership since the check engine light wouldn't go off; they just had to hook it up to their machine and had it fixed in no time (nothing was really wrong with the engine!).  We then went for a good hour ride around the woods on it when we got home.  It was fun spending most of the day together just the two of us.

Sunday after taking inventory at the shop all morning the whole family went out to lunch together at Pub 99. It was so nice having everyone together.  That's something that happens less and less as they get older.

Alec's shop is having them take photos each day of what they bake and I am loving that I get to see what he's done!  So far they've only had two projects this week.

Rolls

Individual mango/peach cobblers

On Wednesday Ian, Evan, and I went to the La- Z- Boy store to see what they had pulled together for our room.  We ordered some furniture but it won't be in for another 5-7 months!  I was expecting the wait time but I am still disappointed we won't have everything in by Christmas.  We ate lunch out at 5 Guys and brought home a couple of lamps and a rug.

Wednesday night Ian took both his brothers to the hair dressers and they all got haircuts. I think it's the first time all 3 of them were gone together and it was kind of weird feeling knowing they were together, driving around, without an "adult."
I have been doing great sticking to my eating plan and weighed in on Thursday to find that I had lost 3 lbs. since last Thursday when I swapped my WW plan from blue to purple!

My favorite "splurge" breakfast-- 5 points for 1/4 cup of the Love Crunch Chocolate/PB granola over nonfat yogurt and fresh fruit.

Evan and I tried to go hiking on Thursday after the storm finally passed through overnight.  It was so nice to get outside and the air had that crisp fall feel at only 60 or so degrees!  Too bad our favorite hiking trails were flooded and blocked by fallen trees.  We still walked around where we could and snapped photos of all the storm damage.

We couldn't even get to the bridge we've always walked over.

I spent a few afternoons outside reading... it's getting a bit windy and chilly now but I hope to be able to still read outside at least a few times a week until October.

All three boys had a great first week of school! Alec was (will be) in culinary shop all 5 days this week and while Ian was in the college on Monday he did homeschooling work mixed in with this college homework the rest of the week and Evan and I tackled a few lessons in all of his books.  I was even able to read aloud 2 chapters in the last Harry Potter book to Ian and Evan and hope we can finished up reading this series together before Ian heads off full time to school.

  4. Sometimes life takes priority over documenting life. This past week, Gabbie took both boys to visit someone who was in town that they wanted to say hi to. It was weird for me too that they were all out together!

    1. I even asked my husband later if he noticed and thought it felt weird and he agreed. I know it's only the start and they'll all be gone from the house more and more often as they each get their own license and jobs.

  5. So sorry you and blogging are not getting along. I have times like that.
What a lovely way to spend a Friday morning. It looks so peaceful out on the lake.
That is a shame about such a long wait for your furniture.
Well done with your weight loss. That is fantastic.
I am glad your boys had a great week of school. My two go back on Monday. x

    1. I figure that blogging is just my hobby and I'm trying to give myself that grace to just blog when I want and step away when I don't. I am so anxious for the furniture to come in so I can see it all put together but even knowing it's ordered is a big weight off my mind.

    1. Thank you! That is so nice to hear; sometimes I do wonder if I'm just writing into the void and if anyone would notice or really care if I stopped. It is so hard to drop pounds with a chef that always wants to bake! I did get my rug at the lazboy store; it was on clearance for just $199 (for the floor model). I could not pass that up.

  10. It's nice you are able to blog and share the things you did get photos of even if you weren't feeling like it. I think we all need a bit of a break from things now and then :)

Hope you are having a great weekend :) We went to Australia Zoo yesterday, so much fun :)
