Sentence a Day in June

We had a fabulous month!  We spent so much time outside and squeezed in lots of hiking before some really hot weather moved in at the end of the month.

1.  I spent the day doing laundry and getting all the household stuff done like going through the mail and paying bills after arriving home late on the 31st from our weekend away.

2. I found time to read on the deck in between playing chauffer for Alec and getting some more laundry done while also meal planning for the month and prepping food for the week. Spent ALL evening trying to find a new place to stay while visiting my sister in North Carolina after she drove by our Airbnb rental and discovered it's in a bad section of the city...

3. I made a chicken, broccoli, and rice casserole (for dinner) and a crustless vegetable quiche (for lunch) as well as a huge salad all before lunch!

4.  We had a huge storm blow through just as I was arriving home with Alec for the day; we really needed the rain and you could actually see streaks of pollen all through the water after the storm.

5. I spent most of my day trying to find a new rental for vacation (we pushed the trip back by nearly 2 full months but found a fabulous rental near the beach); though I did find time to read a bit on the patio and the deck.

6. We enjoyed an afternoon jet skiing around the lake (where I lost my husband's sunglasses!) before heading out to dinner and for dessert with my husband's aunt and uncle.

7. Evan and I went for a walk and then picked strawberries.

8. Evan and I went for a quick hike in the morning and then I whipped up a pound cake for a tasty strawberry shortcake.

9. Alec only had a half- day and I spent the whole time he was at school working on my blog; I finished up two crafting posts, and three other assorted posts for the month. Then I settled outside on the patio to read.

10. Evan and I went hiking at Purgatory Chasm then stopped at Market Basket on the way home where we ate lunch and baked up some banana bread. After school Alec and I whipped up some orange chocolate truffles.

11. Evan, Ian, and I met up with our friends for a hike around Bigelow Pond mid- morning.

12. After driving Alec to karate and having a quick lunch I spent a good portion of my afternoon re-painting the dock and front stoop.

13.  My husband and I spent all morning hiking and part of our afternoon kayaking.

14. A rainy day spent at home cleaning house.

15.  Alec's last day of school included an awards ceremony and an early dismissal so my husband and I took him out to lunch before picking up the new RZR all terrain.

16. After a morning of shopping for father's day gifts with Ian, Evan and I went hiking around Pulaski before lunch. It was beautiful out with a light breeze.

17. The younger boys and I went hiking with my mom in the afternoon.

18.  I dragged the boys to a new hiking spot after I spent most of my morning baking up some Father's Day treats.

19. I spent a good portion of my day reading my latest book and then went out on my first RZR ride with my husband... it's not my favorite though it does ride the trails nicer than the ranger.

20. Father's day was spent puttering around the house; we waxed the truck, cleaned the RZR, cleaned the Ranger, etc.  My husband and Ian did head out for another RZR ride and Alec took my husband out on the jet ski.  I spent most of my day reading on the patio.

21. I can't honestly remember what we did this Monday; I'm pretty sure I spent the day doing housework, paying bills, making up a grocery list-- all that kind of stuff.

22. With rain in the forecast the boys and I decided to head out early and check out a new trail; we got a bit lost on the way but finally found it.  It was nice but not a trail I think we'd ever go back to. We spent our afternoon baking up some s'mores cookies and watching the heron in the rain.

23. As soon as I finished breakfast I painted the spiral staircase and then spent my day hanging by the lake reading.  For dinner we took Alec to his karate pizza party.

They had so much fun playing water balloon baseball

24.  Before breakfast I was out painting the fence then as soon as we finished eating breakfast the boys and I headed out on a kayak ride.  I spent the rest of my day reading in the sun.

25.  We met up with our friends to go on a nice hike. We ended up hiking for 2 hours! Then we had lunch by the lake.  We spent our evening going over the basement details with our builder who promised to start one day next week!

26. After Alec's karate class I kept trying to read my book outside but every time I stepped foot out the the door it would rain. I gave up and went grocery shopping instead.

27.  Alec had a party to go to in the afternoon that was a good 40 minutes away from our house so my husband and I decided to go hiking nearby for the whole 2 1/2 hours.  We grabbed an ice cream cone on the way to pick him up and then ended our night with a RZR ride in the muddy woods.

28. It was to hot that Alec and I spent part of our morning in the lake swimming and floating around.  We spent our afternoon helping the builder carry supplies into the house so he could start on our basement job.

29.  I got up early to paint trim and try to beat the heat.  It was another super hot day and the boys and I went over to swim in the pool.  Our driveway was resealed, I had a hair appointment, and the builder started work on the basement ceiling; it was a busy day!

30.  Alec had an orthodontist appointment in the morning and then my mother, sister, and my sister's two kids to spend the afternoon by the lake. Another scorching hot day.

    1. Honestly, sometimes that is the only thing that keeps me going! LOL. Whenever I want to quit I just remind myself that I am burning calories and think of all the yummy foods I can eat when we are done.

  7. Oh, how exciting that your basement is getting some work done! Yay! And we went hiking once in June but it was so buggy. Do you not have bugs where you are or do you wear bug spray and ignore them? I want to figure out how to do some summer hiking but we might have to wait until the mosquitoes (especially) die down.

    1. I am so excited to see the progress each night and watch the basement finally get some finishing work... my husband swears it will be completely done by December! I told him we should probably go pick out furniture now and hope that it will be delivered by Christmas.

We have tons of bugs where we live and I do wear bug spray but they still bite me like crazy! We try to pick cooler and windy days where bugs aren't so bad but we had at least one hike in June where I got 7 bits on my arms alone. It was awful and I was miserable. The rest of the hikes were cool enough that I was fine.

  13. We had our Daughter, Son in Law & all the Grands visiting during the month. That chicken, broccoli & rice casserole looks delicious! I've had to postponed my NC vacation again to visit family till Oct since we are going to be short staffed again at work, frustrating, though I keep in mind the circumstances are out of my control. I'll be going to the mountains in NC that are on the opposite side of the state from the beach. We took the Grands to the lake several times during their visit, they all said it was one of their favorite things to do, they each caught at least one fish. Smores, Yes! We made our's using different kinds of candy bars such as reeces cups & rolos, it was interesting. I like that hat by the way, suits you. Karen

    1. I have always wanted to visit the mountain area of NC but with family on the coast it seems silly to vacation so close and yet so far from them. I'd love to visit the outer banks one time too.. but again that's a good long way away. I'm hopeful I can talk my sister into doing a joint vacation one year in either Ashford or the Outer Banks.

  17. Fantastic month and monthly review. I wish your posts were scratch and sniff and edible. Or maybe I don't. I would never get back to my lifetime weight if they were!!

The stairs look so great where you painted them. Terrific hikes and days reading on the patio. The dune buggy-type vehicle looks like a lunar rover. I am sure it is lots of fun. Would like to try a jet ski before I am too old to do so.
