Photos of the Week: July 24th

 Another week of challenging prompts!  I really struggled with strip, road sign, and even backyard as our yard is looking really awful after all the rainstorms have repeatedly washed away our beach. 



– backyard (Summer) – A photo of our backyard taken from the side yard. 


– road sign-- Loved how this road sign looked when seen through a nearby clump of shrubs. 



– strip -- Seeing a strip of blue sky through the trees overhead




– lazy day-- We spent a lazy day kayaking around the lake.




– Your Choice-- The rains continue with huge amounts of water coming over the damn under the covered bridge.

      Yep, I couldn't get it to show in the photo but the water was so high a jet ski fell over the upper damn and got lodged under that covered bridge! It was crazy.

      Some of them are really challenging or I get stuck on an idea that would be perfect but not something we see or do that week. I do like the challenge of it though.

    Those are challenging prompts! Road sign is hard because the only time I see road signs is when I'm driving! And I'm certainly not going to be taking pictures then! Strip is hard also, but I really like the picture you chose! That photo would make a good book cover!

      Yes! I don't see many road signs unless I'm driving and it's impossible to take photos then.

    Holy frijoles, that is a crazy amount of water pouring under the bridge. I would be worried about the bridge!! Gosh your lake water is like a mirror. Just beautiful. I am so behind on my iSpy photos. Need to get a post published.

      There actually was a good amount of space between the water and the bridge; though other roads and bridges haven't been so lucky.

    The day of kayaking sounds wonderfully relaxing! there is so much water there though in the last pic - hope you stay dry! :)

    I love that you have a lake in your backyard - what a treat! The lazy day photo is lovely too. But wow!! on the water pouring over the dam!! We've had less problem than usual with flooding in our local area this year, thankfully.

Favorite TV Shows Growing Up in the 80's and early 90's

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Maui Day #5: Kula Botanical Gardens

 Our last full day in Maui, we decided to visit the Kula Botanical Gardens-- the one that we closing when we tried to stop on our first full day in Maui. We slept in a bit and enjoyed a lazy breakfast at/around the condo before heading out.  It was another beautiful, clear day!  We arrived at the botanical gardens around 9:30 and spent nearly 2 hours exploring. Evan and I took a crazy amount of photos and Alec brought along his sketchpad and pencil.  My photos are in no particular order and I threw in some of Evan's as well... enjoy the roundup! notice the flowers growing OUT of the pink fronds! I was obsessed with these hanging flowers The green balls are macadamia nuts; this was a macadamia tree There were a couple of gazebos  we saw ducks, cats, koi, geese, and more.  This tree had the neatest bark! Share Our Lives: 15 Ways I Save Time on Chores

 I'm taking a break from recapping our Hawaii trip this week but will be back on Monday with daily posts from our time on the big island. Welcome to the first Share Our Lives link up of 2025! This month we're talking about how we're saving time on chores.  Over the years I have tried so many different ways to streamline the household chores/cleaning.  Now I'm not always 100% convinced that they save time but they definitely make cleaning the house seems like a more manageable job.  Some things we've tried over the years:  First and foremost stop dirt in it's tracks. We ask that people leave their shoes at the door! That cuts down on a lot of dirt coming into the house.  Ask for help!  I assigned tasks to each of the boys and rotate who had what chore monthly (something that no longer works with Ian working full time and Alec away at school but it was so nice while it lasted). Maui Day #3: Road to Hana

Every time I Googled things to do in Maui, the Road to Hana popped up as a "must see." Though every sight warned it was a LONG journey and a tough ride with lots of switchbacks and 59 bridges; 46 of which are one lane. The speed limit for most of the road is only 15-20 MPH and you have to stop to let others pass. So we headed out early and made sure we had a full tank of gas (since there is none on the road!).  We left our condo by 7 and didn't get home until 8 pm-- stopping for dinner this actually made it a fairly typical Road to Hana day (especially since we were staying on the other side of the island).   waves near Ho' okipa lookout-- they were HUGE on the way back.
