Home Tour

This month for our Not Just A Mom series we're sharing a tour of our homes.  My husband and I built our house (with the help of some professionals and our families). We did a LOT of the work ourselves from start to finish with everyone pitching in with their area of expertise.  We had only been married for a year or so at the time and while it was so stressful we knew we were so blessed to be building our dream home so early/ young.

While we have changed things like paint color and furniture over the years not much else has changed.  Though we did enclose our 2 story foyer to make another room.

Walking in the front door:  Straight ahead is the great room and to the immediate right is a dining/ living room.

The other doorway off the dining room leads to the kitchen; which also leads back to the great room.  Most of our downstairs is one big open circle.

There are three other doorways off the great room; one leading to the deck, one to the playroom/office, and one to a small hallway to the garage.

There is a small 1/2 bath just before the garage and a giant closet near the garage for all our coats, shoes, gloves and hats.

At the top of the stairs the room above the foyer has become a utility/ storage area.

To the immediate right is our bedroom; which also houses my crafting stuff now.

We have our own bathroom and a big walk in closet.

The walkway from our room to the rest of the upstairs overlooks the great room.

Straight ahead is Evan's bedroom:

In between Evan and Alec's room is a linen closet.  Across from Alec's room is the boys' bathroom. Ian's room is at the end over the garage and tucked into the left between the bathroom and Ian's room is the laundry room.

Our basement is currently being worked on; we're putting in a suspended ceiling, a waterproof Pergo floor, and our new kitchen cabinets/ countertop that we're making.

Off the basement is a walkout patio to the lake.

Be sure to join us next month when we talk about our daily must haves.

    1. We definitely were. We made some changes along the way to our original plans and while there are always things I seem to want to change it has been a wonderful house for us.

  6. That's so neat that you got to build your home so early in your marriage. Dave and I had been married for five years when we bought our home and we DEFINITELY didn't build it! It's an older house with a lot of character but we could use a few of our own design elements :)

    1. We were quite fortunate; but I'm not so sure I'd want to build again... ever. LOL. So many decisions and choices and hurdles that pop up along the way.

  24. Love the windows, and of course, the lake view. And knowing that there are so many beautiful hikes right beyond your doorstep. The blue and green wall color works so well together. When you are crafting, do you work in your bedroom? Part of my trouble crafting it that all of my stuff is upstairs. So when PC is home, I hate to be upstairs when he is downstairs.

    1. I do work in my bedroom when I'm crafting; usually I craft while my husband is busy working and the kids are all shuttled away in their rooms on their phones or devices.
