Friday Favorites: So Many Photos and Memories

Despite some really hot temperatures with extreme humidity this week, we still managed to have lots of fun.  We even squeezed in a few hiking trips before the heat took over-- be prepared though as I have TONS of photos this week!  That's always a great sign of a fun and full summer.

We met up with some friends of ours on Friday for a hike.  We ended up hiking for nearly 2 hours! It was our first time checking out Big River Management Area; there are so many trails there that it's easy to get lost. Thankfully the AllTrails App helped us get back to our cars for a late lunch.

Alec had a party to attend on Sunday but it was a good 40 minutes away from our house.  My husband and I decided to go hiking near where the party was taking place.  It wasn't my favorite hike mostly because the mosquitoes were out in full force and I got at least half a dozen bug bites but at least 1/3 of the trail was along this beautiful babbling brook.

Sunday night we went out on a RZR ride; despite hitting a trail with some huge puddles I managed to come home clean.

Alec and I went swimming in the lake on Monday and both boys went swimming in the pool on Tuesday.  I jumped in to cool off too; it was so refreshing.

I love my flamingo nail set from Color Street but plan to change them up today for the 4th of July weekend.

We got our driveway sealed and the contractor started on our basement ceiling all in the same day.  I got all the trim for the basement painted this week too and I can almost picture this space all finished!

So far he got up the track that the suspended ceiling grid will attach to

Since we can't drive on our driveway while the seal sets we set up all the trim in the garage for easy painting.

Ian's boss told him it was too hot to work on Wednesday so I had all three boys home and we invited my mom, sister, niece, and nephew over for the day.  We had lots of fun in the lake trying to keep cool.

Took this photo by accident but loved the wavy reflection of the house on the water!

I made a beautiful bracelet this week using some bead sets that I already had on hand when I was re-stringing some old bracelets that had fallen apart and had all my jewelry making supplies out anyway.  It has been ages since I made some jewelry but I just love how it turned out!

Before the heat rolled in I enjoyed a few breakfasts on the deck.  I am LOVING these cotton candy grapes.

We had several huge storms rolling through our area towards the end of the week and a bolt of lightening struck a tree just two houses over. It wreaked major havoc with a few of the homes/ trailers in our neighborhood.  I was so thankful that we only lost our router.  The water was pouring down so hard and the wind was blowing it around so much that at one point we couldn't see the house and trees across the lake from us (that usually only happens with thick fog or a snowstorm!).

It was so dark and only 7 at night!

    1. It's been funny that so many of our hikes lately have had old historical cemeteries in them. Those graves were mostly from the 1800's.

  15. Hi Joane. I used to own a painting company in Washington State and had one job right on lake Washington, just east of Seattle. While there I commented to the home owner about a shattered tree stump right off of her deck and she told me the story of how she'd come home from shopping as a storm rolled in. She had just stepped into the hallway that led from her front door to the living room and that balcony and turned into her bedroom when lightning struck that tree. It exploded - blowing out several windows in their living room and hurled wood shards down that hall which stuck themselves in the inside of the front door she had closed only seconds before. Had she still been in that hallway, she doubted that she would have survived.

Can you imagine that kind of power? I love a good storm but wow!

Great photos as always. I'm especially fond of almost any waterfall photo. And once wrote a whole story, my longest (at about an hour) just from the prompt of a waterfall photo that caught my attention.

    Thanks for sharing.

  16. So many wonderful photos in this post. That close up of the dewy leaves is so cool and the accidental photo of your wavy house reflection! I love a good summer storm...until it starts knocking tree limbs down and causing damage. Ugh. What a nightmare. Thanks for sharing and linking with me.

  17. Such happy snaps and memories made but summer brings some changes in weather here too. Loved seeing all the photos on the water and in the forest walks too. A beautiful place that you get to call home. Just lovely. Thank you for linking up for #LifeThisWeek last Monday. I am always pleased to see my old(er) and new(er) blogging friends link up. Your comments make my Mondays rock. Next week, the optional prompt is Self Care Stories. I hope to see you there too. Denyse.
