Spring Bucket List (and How I Did On the Winter Bucket List)

With spring just around the corner I thought this would be the perfect time to share our Spring Bucket list!

But first here's a look back at our Winter Bucket list & how we did.

1. Make hot cocoa bombs! -- Check

2. Find some sort of photo challenge for either the winter season or one for each month of winter-- Check!  I joined in with I Spy Saturdays and have been posting photos each week.

3.  Invite a few friends over for a winter camp/bonfire-- Nope!  I never even though about doing this!

4. Go snowshoeing! -- Check!

5. Enjoy a mini winter getaway-- Nope! Sadly our state still hasn't opened up to any outside travel without quarantine and a weekend away is not worth a 10 day quarantine.... maybe soon?!

6. Go hiking-- Check!

7.  Go sledding-- Check!

8. Have a family game night-- Check! Ok so this was more an afternoon 1/2 family game day but I'm still counting it!

9. Get a new bird feeder and take note of the birds we get to visit- check!  We did buy and put out our new feeder but we've only seen one bird at it so far.

10. Keep our family movie nights going!  1/2 a check!  We've watched a movie here and there but still struggle to find something we all want to watch that one of us hasn't already watched a bunch of times.

11. Put together a new puzzle-- Check!

12. Read a book by the fire-- Check!

13. Try a few new recipes from our Winter Recipe Bucket List-- Check! In fact I made 6 of the 9 recipes!

This chicken teriyaki casserole will be part of our menu rotation!

14. Try making our own sourdough bread with "wild" yeast (see how here).-- Check!  We made starter at the end of January and tried making bread within a week.

15. Celebrate Alec's birthday with a little party-- Check!

All in all I am very happy with how we did!

Now Onto Our Spring Bucket List!

1.  Go to the beach!!  I never made it to the beach last year and I am determined to get there this spring before it gets too hot and crowded.  I want to walk around one of our local small beach towns, listen to the waves crash on the sand, and just soak in the sunshine.

2. Plan a few day trips during Alec's Spring break.  I'm thinking perhaps the zoo, the aquarium, a day of shopping at Bass Pro followed by Cupcake Charlies.

3. Go hiking (preferably up Mount Monadnock!). My husband has been talking about doing this ever since we lost all our weight and I think this spring is the time to try.

4. Plant some flowers. Probably just a few pots for our front steps and a pot or two for the back patio but there is nothing like flowers around the house to get me smiling.

5. Go on a family vacation (perhaps to visit my sister?!). My boys have been asking to go down and visit their cousins.  I'm hoping we can leave right after Alec's last day of school but I'm still working on talking my husband into any trip.

6. Celebrate Ian's birthday with a family dinner out.  He gets to pick where we go but I'd love to get the grandparents with us if we can!

7. Plan a weekend away for our 20th anniversary. Even if it's just something local I'd love a night away just the two of us. My husband has been working far too hard and needs a break/ time away from work.  We had had big plans for our 20th but... I'll settle for just about anything now.

8. Go kayaking.  As soon as the lake warms up a bit and all the ice melts it's fun to kayak before all the summer boats make a showing.

9.  Cook on the grill and hopefully eat outside. It's usually not until late spring that we can eat outside and not be super cold but I am looking forward to those nights so much.

10. Eat breakfast out on the patio in the sun.

    1. It nearly killed me the first time we hiked it (I didn't even bother going all the way to the summit; just to where I could see it!)... but I do like the idea of trying again.

  3. I finally was able to find some pansies at a local garden center and made up some simple flower pots with them! It's so nice to see some color in my backyard!!
You did great with your winter bucket list and wishing you best of luck with your spring bucket list as well! The beach getaways sound wonderful!!

    1. I know it is much to early for us to put out any flowers but I am thinking about what I'd like to put out in pots once it warms up.

  4. Great job on your winter bucket list! I would totally love to go on a family vacay this summer. Since we can't go Up North any more we haven't been anywhere for a few years.

  6. I love all your beautiful photos. My DSLR died and I didn't like the first replacement I ordered...need to get another soon. We are celebrating 20 years in August and I really wanted to do something big but it's looking like tht will need to wait a year. I wanted to go to Alaska or Hawaii but would definitely prefer to do it maskless haha. Thinking we should shift to smaller vacation with some mountain views.

    1. Yes, I definitely feel like any big plans we made should wait until we can do them maskless or at least without a 10 day quarantine afterwards!

  7. Great job on your list! I think I saw NY dropped the quarantine requirement now so hopefully you can get away soon. I want to go to the zoo over spring break too!

    1. I'm hoping CT will follow suit soon... we can travel to NY or RI without quarantine but that's it and even then we're urged not to stay more than 24 hours.

  8. Great job accomplishing most of the items on your winter bucket list! One of my spring bucket list items is to have a few friends over to grill out and swim.

  10. Okay, now I'm excited about eating outside! And I love the idea of going to some of the small beach side towns here before they get really busy for summer. There's still a lot to do at the beach, even if it's too cold to swim.

  16. Nice work on your winter list, Joanne, and your photo challenge pics are beautiful. Like you, I am ready for warmer weather...hiking, eating outside, getting to a beach somewhere. I must say I am so impressed by your outdoor winter activities. I'm still trying to break the mindset that you have to stay indoors when it's cold and snowy! :-) Happy spring!

    1. Thank you! It has been a struggle to break that mindset to not just stay inside bundled up-- but it has helped make winter more enjoyable to go out on those days that aren't super cold and snowy.

  17. Great job on the winter list. I have so enjoyed your photography. Glad you are doing iSpy!! That photo of the snow on the rock wall is beautiful. I am reminded of the stone walls we saw on our Civil War battlegrounds tour in 2007. Hope life opens up enough to allow for trips very soon. I did go to Disney with my daughter and granddaughter. It was wonderful. Every flight was packed, though. But I have been vaccinated so felt somewhat safe.
Yay for eating outdoors and planning that ambitious hike. We are hoping to hike up to the tin mines near our home. Bought special super bright flashlights for the occasion.
    Thanks for joining me!!
